Netflix has just dropped our new obsession and what’s going to keep us occupied this weekend – Ransom Canyon. The 10-part western drama is peak cowboy core and revolves around the town of Ransom Canyon and the feuding families who run ranches in this Texan community. There’s romance, drama and plenty of rodeos to keep us busy all of the long weekend.
The series mainly revolves around the love story between Staten Kirkland and Quinn O’Grady, a classic will-they-won’t they romance, but with cowboy hats. However, there’s also plenty of other intriguing sub-plots and swoon-worthy romance storylines too.
With a lot of overlapping plots and characters, it can at time be a little confusing to work out who is related to, who is dating and who is feuding with who, so consider this your official guide to the most important characters in Ransom Canyon, including where you recognize the cast members who play them from.
Josh Duhamel as Staten Kirkland
Who is Staten Kirkland?: Staten is a wealthy ranch owner, who is grappling with the death of his wife and son, having lost them both in a two-year period. He has feelings for Quinn O’Grady, but tries to keep them buried. He’s also dealing with his father and brother-in-law trying to convince him to sell up his land to a new investment firm trying to plant a water pipe through town.
What else has Josh Duhamel been in before?: Josh is best known for his roles in the Transformers movies, as well as a number of romcoms including Safe Haven, Shotgun Wedding, Life as We Know It and New Year’s Eve.
Minka Kelly as Quinn O’Grady
Who is Quinn O’Grady?: Quinn grew up alongside Staten, however, she moved away to New York to pursue her dream of being a concert pianist. She was best friend’s with Staten’s wife and returned home to help look after her when she got sick. Since returning to Ransom she’s been looking after her family’s lavender farm and running the dancehall in town, along with her friend Ellie. Quinn also has feelings for Staten, but is being pursued by Davis, Staten’s brother-in-law.
What else has Minka Kelly been in before?: You’ll most likely recognize Minka from her iconic role as Lyla Garrity in Friday Night Lights. She’s also had roles in The Butler, Just Go With It, Almost Human and Parenthood.
Eoin Macken as Davis Collins
Who is Davis Collins?: Davis owns another ranch in town and is working to help secure the town’s future by getting the water pipeline installed. His sister was married to Staten, but sadly passed away. He has a teenage son from one of his previous marriages called Reid, who was best friends with Staten’s son. Davis is trying to get together with Quinn.
What else has Eoin Macken been in before?: Calling all Merlin fans! You may recognise Ransom Canyon’s Davis as Sir Gwaine from the BBC show. If you weren’t a Merlin fan then you may also know Macken from his roles in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, La Brea, and Borderline.
Andrew Liner as Reid Collins
Who is Reid Collins?: Reid is Davis’ son and the nephew of Staten. He’s currently in high school and has an on/off relationship with Lauren.
What else has Andrew Liner been in before?: Liner is best known for his roles in the series Vampire Academy and Grown-ish.
Lizzy Greene as Lauren Brigman
Who is Lauren Brigman?: Lauren is a high-school cheerleader, determined to get out of Ransom Canyon and make a life for herself. Her dad is the local sheriff and her mom struggles with alcohol dependency. She’s been dating Reid on and off, but has feelings for Lucas.
What else has Lizzy Greene been in?: Lizzy began her career on Nickelodeon starring the comedy series Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn. Since then she’s been one of the leads in the series A Million Little Things as the character Sophie Dixon.
