The new Netflix series Ransom Canyon has already thrilled and intrigued viewers since its release on April 17.
The Western drama follows three ranching families as they compete over the land of Ransom Canyon in Texas Hill Country. The series focuses on Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel) and Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly) as they try to navigate their complicated years-long will they/won’t they relationship while also dealing with their own struggles of grief, love and questions about the future.
The first season consisted of 10 episodes and quickly skyrocketed to become the most-watched TV series on Netflix. The finale ended on a major cliffhanger, so many fans have wondered if there is a second season in the works.
Ransom Canyon’s showrunner, April Blair, previously explained to Tudum that her goal was to make viewers “want more” after watching the first season.
“My favorite feeling is when a show ends, and you don’t want it to end, and you just want more,” she told the outlet ahead of the premiere. “It makes you feel warm and familiar, and you don’t want to let go. That is how I hope people feel. It’s how I feel about the show watching it.”
So, will there be a season 2 of Ransom Canyon? Here’s everything we know so far, including what Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly have shared.
Netflix has not confirmed whether or not they will be renewing Ransom Canyon for a second season. However, the series made its way to the streaming service’s top 10 TV shows and continued to gain a following on social media, with many fans comparing it to the famed Yellowstone franchise.
The show’s creator, Blair, spoke about the possibility of season 2 and told Deadline in April 2025 that they were “in the room” working on and writing the next season.
If the series is picked up for another season, Blair and the rest of the writers will have plenty of material to work with, since the series is based on the popular seven-book series by the same name, written by Jodi Thomas.
Who might return for Ransom Canyon season 2?
Since the second season has not been officially renewed, it’s unclear which actors would return.
In addition to Duhamel and Kelly, the first season starred James Brolin (as Cap Fuller), Lizzy Greene (as Lauren Brigman), Eoin Macken (as Davis Collins), Jack Schumacher (as Yancy Grey), Brett Cullen (as Senator Samuel “Sam” Kirkland) and Kate Burton (as Katherine Bullock).
The only actor who most likely would not return in a significant role is Brolin, since his character died during the first season.
Season 2 of Ransom Canyon could also introduce new faces and cast members. During the season 1 finale, Yancy’s wife made an unexpected appearance but didn’t reveal her face.
Blair later confirmed to Deadline that the role had not yet been cast, so she had her friend Erica Dasher temporarily fill in for the short scene. However, the writer teased that she’s looking for a permanent actress to take over the role.
What have Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly said about Ransom Canyon season 2?
Both Duhamel and Kelly have expressed interest in returning to Ransom Canyon if the series gets renewed for a second season.

During an interview with Deadline in April 2025, Kelly revealed that she had already thought about her hopes for both her and Duhamel’s characters in the potential second season.
“I hope for Staten to get his stuff together,” she said. “I hope for him to get healthy and to find a way to manage his grief in a more healthy way.”
Kelly added that she hopes O’Grady can take a step back from her complicated love life with Kirkland and that she wants to “see her thriving with her businesses and her friendships.”
Meanwhile, Duhamel agreed with Kelly’s thoughts on Kirkland and said that he hopes his character will “work through his s—” next season.
