Barbra Streisand is celebrating 27 years of marriage with James Brolin!
The singer, actress and director, 83, marked the milestone with her longtime love on Tuesday, July 1, by sharing a throwback snap of the couple at the 1997 Academy Awards — taken the year after they struck up a romance. In the photo, which she posted on Instagram, Brolin, 84, wraps his arm around the Funny Girl star and rests his head on hers.
Sweetly, Streisand noted in the caption that the pair’s wedding anniversary is the same date as their very first date.
“We met on a blind date 29 years ago tonight, and we married 27 years ago today,” the star wrote alongside the tribute. “I love you honey. B xo. ❤️.”
The 1997 Oscars marked an early appearance for Streisand and Brolin as a couple. The actor attended in support of Streisand, who earned an Oscar nomination for her song “I Finally Found Someone” from The Mirror Has Two Faces.
Just months earlier, the pair made their red carpet debut at the New York City premiere of The Mirror Has Two Faces in November 1996. (Outside of writing and performing its original song, Streisand also starred in and directed the film.)
As The Way We Were star noted in her 27th anniversary tribute, the longtime couple first met at a blind date dinner party in 1996, when Streisand was 54 and Brolin was 56.
“We were set up as a blind date, and I was so shy that I came into the house and I went downstairs to be with the children and play with them until I had to sit down at the table,” Streisand recalled on The Tonight Show in 2021.
The star also revealed that she made fun of Brolin’s haircut that same night.
“I expected a guy with a brown beard and brown, wavy hair, like a mountain man,” she joked. “And I saw a guy that had all his hair cut off, no beard. And I walked by him. I put my hand through his hair and said, ‘Who f—– up your hair?’ “
The stars — who each have children from previous marriages — wed two years after their dinner party meet-cute in a backyard wedding at Streisand’s Malibu home.
Streisand serenaded Brolin with two new love songs at the nuptials, where the star-studded guest list included John Travolta, Quincy Jones, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson — the latter of whom is still celebrating the couple’s love 27 years later.
“So much love to you both!!!! 💐💐💐💐💐💐,” Wilson, 68, commented on Streisand’s July 1 tribute.
In his wedding speech, Brolin said: “I can’t tell you how lucky I am that this would happen to me so late in life. Every night is a new adventure. Sleeping is a waste of time. I can’t wait to see her again in the morning.”
