“Ray Romano Unfiltered: Behind the Scenes of the Comedy Genius Who Made ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ Iconic”

Everybody Loves Raymond was a true comic force when it premiered: the Barone family is filled with some of the most hilarious characters, each with their own charm and idiosyncrasies. Together, the cast worked together to create hysterical scenes in each episode and made it one of the best sitcoms of the 1990s.

The series, which aired from 1996 to 2005, follows Ray Barone (Ray Romano), a popular sportswriter who just happens to live across the street from his overbearing mother Marie (Doris Roberts), uncompromising father Frank (Peter Boyle) and, sometimes, jealous brother Robert (Brad Garrett). Ray tends to keep a somewhat positive outlook, especially as he leaves the tough problems for his practical wife, Debra, to deal with.

Ray Romano has been married to his sweetheart since 1987, about nine years before Everybody Loves Raymond began airing. The couple first met in 1983 while they were both working as bank tellers in Queens. Although they were friends, Ray waited until after he was no longer a bank employee to ask his now-wife out.

“I always tell her she took a gamble because she went out with a guy who lived at home and rode a bike to work,” Romano said of his wife.

In 1985, the two began dating and tied the knot in 1987. The couple has four children together, welcoming their first, daughter Alexandra, in 1990. In 1993, the Romano’s had twin sons Matthew and Gregory, and their fourth son, Joseph, in 1998.

They’ve been together, happily married since, supporting each other along the way through everything, including Ray’s massive fame.
