We’re just a few weeks away from the finale of Will Trent’s Season 3, and the show’s star has pulled back the curtain on what to expect in Season 4. Will Trent was renewed for a fourth season midway through Season 3, and ABC confirmed earlier this year that it plans to launch a sequel before the end of the year.
Starring as Will Trent in the hit series is Ramón Rodriguez, known for his work on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Battle Los Angeles, and Need for Speed. Rodriguez directed the Season 3 premiere earlier this year, and in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, he was asked if he plans to direct the show again.
“I’ll definitely direct at least one episode next season. It makes the most sense for me to direct the premiere like I did last season. I like the pressure of setting the bar for a season.”
It sounds like fans can expect to see Rodriguez direct the Season 4 premiere like he did in Season 3. The Season 3 premiere, “I’m a Guest Here,” was also one of the highest-rated episodes of the entire season, so Rodriguez’s return to directing is welcome news. Over the course of three seasons, only four stars have appeared in every episode of Will Trent other than Rodriguez.
Erika Christensen and Iantha Richardson have both appeared in all 41 episodes of Will Trent to date as Angie Polaski and Faith Mitchell. Jake McLaughlin and Sonja Sohn have also starred in every episode of the series as Michael Ormwood and Amanda Wagner. Other notable names who have appeared in Will Trent across the three seasons include Cora Lu Tran, Todd Allen Durkin, Kurt Yue, Gina Rodriguez, and Kevin Daniels.
‘Will Trent’ Season 3 Sets Series Record
Season 3 of Will Trent ended with an 80% audience score on aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, marking a record low for the show in three seasons. However, this was only because the first two seasons had scores of 82% and 85%, which were close to achieving the legendary “Verified Hot” badge on the audience-driven Popcornmeter.
Will Trent was written and created for television by Liz Heldens and Daniel T. Thomsen, and is based on the book series by Karin Slaughter. Adam Toltzis also worked in the writers’ room for all three seasons.
Will Trent Season 4 is set to be released later this year. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage on the series, and watch the first three seasons of Will Trent on Hulu.
