Who’s joining Chicago Med in Season 10?

The cast for Season 10 has yet to be confirmed, but Chicago Med will be gaining a new addition behind-the-scenes that could shake up the entire creative direction of the show. Just before the Season 9 finale, news broke that Allen MacDonald has been tapped as Chicago Med‘s new executive producer and showrunner. MacDonald’s career in entertainment spans over two decades. He started off as a production’s assistant on Saved by the Bell: The New Class and went on to become a writer/producer for shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Body of Proof, American Gothic and 13 Reasons Why. Most recently, he served as the showrunner of the Amazon Prime Video limited series Harlan Coben’s Shelter.

Having one sole showrunner will be a change of pace for Chicago Med, as co-showrunners Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider have been at the helm since the show first debuted in 2015. The duo announced their departure in early April 2024. “We were honored to be chosen by Dick Wolf to run Chicago Med and have tremendously enjoyed our association with Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television,” Frolov and Schneider said in a statement at the time. “We love Chicago Med and have devoted all our creative energies to it, but after nine seasons we feel it’s time for us to move on and explore other possibilities. We’ve been privileged to work with a great writing staff, production team and a brilliant cast of actors. We will miss them all.”

Series creator Dick Wolf also released a statement, which read: “We’re grateful to Diane and Andy for nine fabulous seasons of Chicago Med. They helped us give NBC a No. 1 bona fide hit for almost a decade.”

Chicago Med isn’t the only show in the Dick Wolf universe that is facing a major behind-the-camera shakeup. A few weeks after Frolov and Schneider stepped down, FBI showrunner Rick Eid announced his departure. Eid had led the CBS drama since 2016, and he is leaving to focusing on Law & Order, which he’s served as the showrunner of since 2022. “After six years of running two, or more, shows, and CBS now picking up FBI for three more years, this was the perfect time for me to step back and focus my efforts on running Law & Order and developing new projects,” Eid said in a statement. “I’m extremely proud of FBI, and couldn’t be happier for the cast, crew and producers. While I will no longer be the day-to-day showrunner, I intend to remain involved with the show going forward.”

Eid will be replaced by Mike Weiss, who has a long and storied career in television. Most recently, Wiess co-created, executive produced and served as co-showrunner alongside Heidi Cole McAdams on the Hulu mystery series Death and Other Details. He’s also familiar with the Dick Wolf universe, having worked as a writer and co-executive producer on Season 3 and 4 of Chicago P.D. His other credits include The Mentalist, Code Black, Stumptown and In Plain Sight.
