Roseanne Barr Begged ABC Not to Cancel Roseanne

Roseanne Barr hasn’t finished pleading her case after a controversial week.

The sitcom star began another Twitter rant on Thursday telling her followers that she begged ABC not to cancel her show. The network made the decision to pull the plug on Roseanne on Tuesday after Barr tweeted a racist “joke” about former President Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett. In the days since, Barr has tried to backtrack from the tweet by saying it was a joke, making the excuse that she was on Ambien and apologizing for costing the rest of the cast, crew and writers their jobs.

Now, Barr wants the world to know that she tried everything she could to get Disney-ABC Television Group boss Ben Sherwood to reverse the decision to end the show. “I begged Ben Sherwood at ABC 2 let me apologize & make amends. I begged them not to cancel the show. I told them I was willing to do anything & asked 4 help in making things right. I’d worked doing publicity4 them 4free for weeks, traveling, thru bronchitis. I begged4 ppls jobs,” she wrote.

Barr continued with Sherwood’s alleged response in which he dismissed her apology. “He said: what were you thinking when you did this? I said: I thought she was white, she looks like my family! He scoffed & said: ‘what u have done is egregious, and unforgivable.’ I begged 4 my crews jobs. Will I ever recover from this pain? omg.”

The actress was able to find plenty of sympathizers though because she noted multiple retweets of people supporting her through this PR crisis. She also added a note that she’s the most sad about Jayden Rey, the young woman who played Roseanne’s black granddaughter on the revival sitcom.

I think I'll b better tomorrow. The saddest part of all is 4 Jayden Rey on the show whom I grew2 love so much & am so ashamed of myself that she would ever think I do not love her bc she is African American. It the most gawd awful painful thing. I cant let myself cave in tho

As for the cast and crew, there are rumors that ABC is contemplating creating a Roseanne-adjacent series with the cast and crew that were let go over Barr’s racist comments.

Sorry Roseanne, it seems the Twitter apologies are just too little, too late on this one.
