The Conners finale marks the end of a sitcom dynasty. Roseanne was one of TV’s strongest sitcoms across the decades and it took on new life when reboot made its way to ABC. Now, the family are signed off the air, with John Goodman leaving the audience with a tender, emotional goodbye. Most people were deeply moved by the show’s ending, save for maybe Roseanne herself. Her various controversies and The Conners effectively writing her out wipes her direct inclusion out entirely. But there’s one more Roseanne star opening up about their lack of inclusion in the show’s finale.
Recently, Michael Fishman took to Instagram to address his lack of involvement in The Conners series finale. His character was the only son to John Goodman and Roseanne in the original show. Additionally, he stars in the first four seasons of the show’s reboot. So what keeps him from at least making the finale? Admittedly, his post leaves more questions than answers.
Michael Fishman Addresses His Absence From Series Finale of The Conners
“People seem to want to have there be some kind of conflict or controversy, especially on my part. The reality is, all I really have is empathy and understanding for all of the people on set and for all of our audience that’s grieving. I prefer to be a lighthouse in the dark,” Fishman says of The Conners finale. “I have only gratitude, I really believe that that legacy belongs to all of you in the audience.”
“I’ve been really lucky to be rewarded for my professionalism and kindness and collaboration by the Carsey-Werner Company, who owns it, who has asked me to keep shining a light on the series,” FIshman continues of The Conners and Roseanne production studio. “It’s for that reason that I’m creating a safe space to build community to process difficult emotions and transitions.”
Ultimately, FIshman doesn’t address why exactly he didn’t make the series finale of The Conners. However, he is vocally appreciative of his time with the show. Moreover, he’s looking to retrace his steps with the series over the years and see what he takes away now. “And it’s been my honor, because I believe it’s a comfort show for many. So in this time, I keep thinking to myself, it’s the perfect time to reconnect,” he says. “It’s the perfect time to go back and celebrate. And so I’m looking back and starting over and watching from the beginning with a whole new perspective.”
