In the spin-off of sitcom Roseanne, the mother of the house with that name has passed away. This is evident from an interview with John Goodman, who plays her husband Dan in the series. When John was asked how his character is doing in The Conners, the actor replied: “I think he’s sad and dejected because his wife is dead.”
Roseanne returned to the airwaves last March after an absence of more than twenty years. The reboot, in which all the main characters from the original returned, was a great success.
Racist tweet
However, in May, lead actor and co-creator Roseanne Barr sent out a racist tweet, after which ABC decided to stop the show. Not long after, it was announced that the makers of the program are working on a spin-off without Barr, which will therefore be called The Conners.
In the Sunday Times interview, Goodman states that he is certain that Barr is not a racist. The two have not had any contact since the end of Roseanne. Goodman did send his former colleague an e-mail to thank her for her cooperation in the creation of The Conners.
The comedienne, who has apologized for the tweet, was actually supposed to earn money from a spin-off. ABC refused to do so. Barr decided to waive the financial compensation so that her former colleagues and the people behind the scenes could get to work on the series.
“I haven’t heard anything back about that,” Goodman said about his email. “But she was going through hell at the time. And she’s still going through hell.”
