Sad news: Kevin Costner – an icon of ‘Yellowstone’ – has died suddenly at the age of 71 md20

Kayce Dutton just paid a visit to the train station.

In the second episode of Marshals, the Yellowstone spinoff series about the youngest Dutton (Luke Grimes), Kayce participated in his first official operation as a U.S. Marshal, which brought him to the Zone of Death.

In Yellowstone, the Zone of Death was the area the Dutton family referred to as the “train station.” They used it as a dumping ground for bodies that needed to disappear without a trace. In the series finale, Rip (Cole Hauser) and Beth (Kelly Reilly) dumped Jamie Dutton’s (Wes Bentley) body in the Zone of Death.

As Andrea (Ash Santos) describes it, it’s called the Zone of Death “because there’s no citizens, no law enforcement, no judges or juries, so there’s no way to prosecute crimes.”

Harry (Brett Cullen), who is head of the Montana U.S. Marshals division, used that moment to put Kayce on the spot, highlighting his distaste for the Dutton family. “Local legend [says] it’s been a dumping ground for the region’s most depraved criminals,” Harry said. “The Duttons, you’ve been here for over a century. This tale get passed down through generations?”

Kayce looked concered, but denied any knowledge of the crime-ridden region. “No, that’s the first I’m hearing of it,” he said.

In the car on the way to the Zone of Death, Kayce was put on the spot again by Andrea and Miles (Tatanka Means) for being “awful quiet” in the backseat. When Miles point-blank asked if Kayce was “nervous,” Kayce referred to the area as “the last place you wanna be,” which renewed their curiosity.

“So you do know this place?” Andrea asked Kayce. He blamed his wording on his nerves, which were high because “the op just has a lot of unknowns.”

That answer sparked yet another question from Andrea, as she noted that Kayce “probably [has] enough [unknowns]” in his life already, before she asked, “Do you really not know where your brother Jamie is?” Kayce kept quiet.

“At least when my Dad got killed, we knew he was gone. Gave us closure,” Andrea said. Kayce’s family history, in comparison, she said, makes it “hard to turn the page.”

At one point when they were in the Zone of Death, Belle (Arielle Kebbel) said she saw something “reflecting” across the ravine in her binoculars, which left Kayce looking particularly nervous.

Andrea took that sighting to mean that the area being known locally as a “burial ground [is] more than just a rumor.” Kayce was quick to shift the team’s focus back to the mission. “Ghosts in the ravine, they do not concern us,” Pete (Logan Marshall-Green) said.

Once the op was underway, Kayce was back to his old habits. He tracked down the cars that had escaped with the bomb and killed the men operating them. For old times’ sake, he threw one of the bodies off the ravine — a true callback to the Yellowstone days.

Later, when Pete asked what had happened to the fifth man involved, who Kayce had killed and thrown off the ravine, he played it off. Harkening back to what the area’s known for, Kayce just said, “Zone of Death, I guess.”
