Even though the 17th season of Grey’s Anatomy has featured the return of many fan-favorite characters, Sandra Oh’s Cristina Yang will not be among those returning
Oh told The Times’ Asian Enough podcast that she will not be returning to Grey’s Anatomy for a reunion with Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey. “No,” Oh said when asked about returning to Grey’s Anatomy. “I love it, though, and this is also why I really appreciate the show … that I still get asked this.”
“It’s very rare, I would say, to be able to see in such a way the impact of a character,” Oh said when discussing her appreciation for Cristina the longer she’s been away from the show. “In some ways, you do your work as a bubble and you let it go. I left that show, my God, seven years ago almost. So in my mind, it’s gone. But for a lot of people, it’s still very much alive. And while I understand and I love it, I have moved on.”
“So please come with me to Killing Eve and on to [the upcoming Netflix series] The Chair and on to the other projects,” she continued. “Come see the characters that I’m playing that are much more deeply integrated in … the Asian American experience.”
Season 10 of Grey’s Anatomy saw Sandra Oh depart the series, which was ultimately her call after deciding it was time to move on after 10 years. Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer’s Killing Eve will come to an end with Season 4, though AMC Networks and BBC America are planning numerous spinoffs.
