Although Sass could have been telling the truth about his origins after all, Woodstone B&B has plenty of ghosts from the 20th century. Sass’s indigenous roots are more interesting since he alone represents this era of history, and I’d rather see more of that story in Ghosts season 4 than the revelation that he was never alive anywhere near the 1500s. Although revealing Sass was playing into this misconception all along could be funny as a one-off gag, I don’t see much long-term potential for the twist. As such, I hope Ghosts season 4 steers clear of this callback.
However, he almost immediately recanted the story after fooling Sam, and I think this should be the last time that Ghosts mentions the claim. Although circumstances have improved in recent years thanks to shows like Reservation Dogs, Rutherford Falls, and Dark Winds, there is still a dearth of Native American representation on television in 2024. Sass’s status as a Native American allows him to bring to life part of America’s history that is all too often forgotten entirely, and wasting this perspective on a punchline would be a terrible decision for the series. I’m certain the revelation would be a mistake.
