The Good Doctor‘s final season is winding down and only a handful of episodes remain before fans will have to say goodbye to St. Bonaventure for good. When is The Good Doctor series finale? Keep reading to see when the final episode will air.
ABC’s The Good Doctor is a medical drama following Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a young, autistic surgical resident at the fictional San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. Despite skepticism from his colleagues, Shaun use his extraordinary gifts and unique talents to save lives, eventually rising to the attending level. The series first premiered in 2017 and also stars Richard Schiff, Christina Chang, Chuku Modu, Fiona Gubelmann, Will Yun Lee, Paige Spara, Giacomo Baessato and Bria Samoné Henderson.
Despite consistently high ratings, ABC announced that the hit show would be ending with Season 7 in January 2024. “The Good Doctor has been a once in a lifetime opportunity, but it’s time to say goodbye. We are incredibly proud of the work we’ve done and the message we’ve been privileged to be a part of,” executive producers David Shore, Liz Friedman and Eric Gunn said in a joint statement at the time. The producers also promised to give fans “the series ending that you all deserve.”
That ending will come sooner rather than later as Season 7 has a reduced episode count of just 10 episodes. We have everything there is to know about the series finale below.
When is The Good Doctor series finale?
When is The Good Doctor series finale? An exact date has not been confirmed, but the medical drama is set to end sometime in May with Season 7 Episode 10. The show is currently on a two-week break following Dr. Asher Wolke’s (Noah Galvin) funeral in Episode 6. The fan favorite was tragically killed off the episode prior in a shocking twist that no one saw coming. While on his way to meet his soon-to-be fiancé Jerome Martel (Giacomo Baessato) he was struck in the head and killed in an antisemitic attack. The Good Doctor writer Adam Scott Weissman later told The Wrap that Asher was killed off before the series finale to draw attention to the rise of antisemitic and anti-LGBTQ+ attacks in the United States. He also noted that the goal was to bring Asher’s story to “what we thought was a satisfying ending.”
The show will return from its brief break on April 30. There are plenty of storylines to wrap up before the series finale, including the main question of how Shaun’s story will end. Ahead of the episode, several cast members reflected on their time on the show and dedicated sweet tributes to The Good Doctor on social media. Keep scrolling to see their final moments on set.
Will Yun Lee
Will Yun Lee has starred as Dr. Alex Park, an attending general surgeon at St. Bonaventure, since Season 1. He was brought on halfway through the inaugural season after Eric Winter (who starred as Dr. Coyle) left the show for The Rookie.

Fiona Gubelmann
Fiona Gubelmann joined the cast at the same time as Lee, starring as Dr. Morgan Reznick. Reznick eventually switched from surgery to internal medicine and rose to the attending level along with the rest of her resident class.
The actress shared several photos from her first day on set in honor of her last day of filming. The post included the script for her first-ever episode and a photo of her in scrubs for the first time. “From my first day on set to now my last. The journey has been life changing. I’ve loved every minute of it. Thank you to everyone involved in The Good Doctor for everything 🩷,” she wrote in the caption.
