Season 4’s Hottest New Couple Is Destined to Crash — Here’s Why Everyone’s Talking

It’s time for Will and Angie to let go of each other and for Will Trent to move on from them and focus on a new romance. The two characters have a complicated story. Will and Angie have been in an on-and-off relationship since they were teenagers, consistently finding their way back to one another. That likely won’t be the case this time, though.

In the wake of Will Trent season 3’s ending, Angie is planning on having her and Seth’s baby, while Will’s love life is nonexistent. Consequently, Will and Angie’s relationship seems broken beyond repair at this point. If Will and Angie’s will-they/won’t they arc has now settled on “won’t they,” then the TV show needs a new romance to explore.

Why Lucy & Caleb Are The Perfect Will Trent Season 4 Main Couple (Now That Will & Angie Are Over)

Season 4 Must Move On From Will & Angie

Sure, Angie and Seth or Will and a new love interest (possibly one from the Will Trent books) could replace Will and Angie’s relationship in the crime drama series. However, it would be more interesting if season 4 explored a romance outside those two characters. Thankfully, one fell right into the writers’ laps towards the end of season 3.

Although we learned the basics of Lucy and Caleb’s whirlwind romance, it would be intriguing to see it rather than hear about it.

The penultimate episode of Will Trent season 3 introduced a new character — Sheriff Caleb Roussard, Will’s biological father. The news was a surprise to everyone, including Caleb and Will. In the finale, though, the two men came to an understanding about getting to know one another, especially after Caleb gave Will an overview of his and Lucy Morales’ (Will’s birth mother) love story.

Although we learned the basics of Lucy and Caleb’s whirlwind romance, it would be intriguing to see it rather than hear about it. Will Trent season 4 could feature flashbacks to Lucy and Caleb’s time together, which co-showrunner Liz Heldens said was “a good idea” when speaking with TVLine. This would satisfy the show’s romance quota and continue to build Will’s backstory.

Lucy & Caleb’s Story Is Doomed But Will Trent Season 4 Should Still Tell It Via Flashbacks

Will’s Mother Died Many Years Ago

Perhaps some wouldn’t be interested in seeing Lucy and Caleb’s romance play out on the small screen because it doesn’t have a happy ending. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s not a story worth telling. As many will recall, Lucy died shortly after giving birth to Will, and Caleb had no idea. All these years, Caleb thought that Lucy had just disappeared.

Now, Caleb knows Lucy’s fate. The story is wrought with tragedy, and that’s the kind of thing the ABC series loves. If it can’t have Will and Angie’s toxic relationship, then the show can explore Lucy and Caleb’s doomed romance. Plus, there’s no better way to get to know Caleb than through flashbacks of him and Lucy in Will Trent season 4.
