Two “Tracker” stars left the cast after season 2 — and the season 3 premiere addressed their departures.
Bobby Exley’s (Eric Graise) absence was addressed during a scene with Randy (Chris Lee) and Reenie (Fiona Rene).
“He’s killing it. He quit his job officially at the repair shop and now he is some encryption specialist at a new startup. Between the stock options and the salary, he is bringing home the bacon,” Randy said of Bobby during the Sunday, Oct. 19, episode of “Tracker.”
Randy also read aloud a text from Bobby that read, “Thx. Miss u 2. Tell the gang I say hi.”
As for Velma Bruin (Abby McEnany), Reenie revealed that she’d gone to see her wife, Teddi, and is “trying to save her marriage.”
Robin Weigert played Teddi in season 1 of “Tracker” before leaving the CBS drama. It was revealed during season 2 that Teddi and Velma had separated.
Bobby, Velma, and Teddi all previously worked with Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley), who makes his money aiding law enforcement and private citizens in exchange for reward money. Teddi and Velma were his handlers, helping him find cases and do research. Bobby used his skills as a hacker to assist Colter.
While his team has dwindled, Colter still has Reenie, who helps him with legal matters, and Randy, a computer scientist who is also Bobby’s cousin.
Most of Bobby and Velma’s conversations with Colter took place over the phone. During a May interview with Us Weekly, “Tracker” executive producer Elwood Reid said that he didn’t “want the show to be ‘phone a friend’ every week,” which Hartley agreed with.
“Justin is always challenging me on that. He’s like, ‘Do we need to do this? Do I need to call Bobby all the time?’” Reid said.
Colter is a lone-wolf survivalist, so it makes sense that he wouldn’t have a big ensemble of characters working alongside him.
