This look deserves the gold, in our opinion.
The Summer Olympics have been full of stunning beauty looks, and icon Serena Williams is, of course, no exception. Debuting a stunning platinum blonde color, Williams is officially testing out the “blondes have more fun” theory for herself.
First seen in Paris while attending the Prelude to the Olympics party at Foundation Louis Vuitton ahead of the opening ceremonies, the tennis superstar showcased her bright new ‘do that has us in a chokehold. The waist-length mermaid waves feature a deep Old Hollywood-inspired side part that gives effortless elegance and glam.
“Serena’s new dimensional French Vanilla blonde is a perfect example of how adding depth at the roots can bring a chic element to blonde hair,” says R+COLOR Education Director Renée Valerie. “Platinum blonde tones are becoming increasingly popular, and this look shows how to create a balanced version that enhances her features beautifully.”
Williams is no stranger to switching up her look. Before going platinum, our girl was rocking a honey ombré with dark brown roots and her natural color is a rich black hue, so this bright blonde is a welcomed surprise. Not to mention, it provided a gorgeous juxtaposition of Williams’ neutral fit and sparkling purple shadow (pro tip: try using Covergirl’s Eye Shadow Sticks to mimic this shadow).

How to Get the Look
Platinum blonde has become a really popular shade, slowly becoming the new desired blonde. With fall around the corner, this hue is a great choice for a cooled tone that compliments the darker colors the season brings.
When headed to the salon, ask your stylist for an iced platinum color to achieve Williams’ cool platinum tone. To recreate this style, Valerie likes to “start with classic highlights, followed by hand-painting in between, then finish with a shadow root customized to your guests base and a gloss.”
With any bleach and tone, your hair will need some extra TLC to bring it back to its full glossy potential. Be sure to stock up on bonding and repairing products that help nourish every layer of hair to lock in moisture.
