The firefighter has had lots of family drama over the years.

Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) is the closest thing Chicago Fire has to a main character. His presence hasn’t been as consistent in recent years, but his presence is still very much felt whenever the iconic One Chicago firefighter is onscreen.

Kelly positioned himself as a loner early on in the show, but the longer Chicago Fire has worn on, the more we’ve learned about his family. It could be argued that we know more about his family than any other character on the show, in fact. We’re still meeting new members of his family, so we felt it would be beneficial to run through his family tree and give fans a refresher of who is who.

Benny Severide (father)

Let’s start with Benny Severide (Treat Williams). Kelly’s father was a Chicago firefighter who served alongside veterans like Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) and Henry Mills. He was fearless in the field, but he was also known for his rocky personal life, and his romances with different women.

Benny Severide was an inconsistent presence on the show, much in the same way he was an inconsistent presence in his son’s life. He appeared in various episodes throughout the first six seasons, before passing away (offscreen) in season 7.

Jennifer Sheridan (mother)

Jennifer Sheridan (Kim Delaney) had a short-lived and volatile relationship with Benny Severide. She was much more present in her son’s life, but there was still plenty of tension between her and Kelly, especially as he embarked on a career path identical to that of his father.

Jennifer Sheridan has only appeared in four episodes, with the last one, “The Magnificent City of Chicago,” occurring in season 10. She’s alive and well, as far as we know, so it would stand to reason that she will return at some point.

Katie Nolan (half-sister)

Katie Nolan (Brittany Curan) was introduced in season 2. She’s the daughter of Benny Severide, but she didn’t actually get a chance to meet him until she was ten years old. She was already an adult by the time she got to spend time with her half-brother, Kelly.

Katie and Kelly forge a relationship during the former’s time on the show. She even dates one of her half-brother’s co-workers, Otis (Yuri Sardarov). Katie decides to leave Chicago at the end of season 2, but she returns for her father’s funeral in season 7.

Jack Damon (half-brother)

The latest, and most unexpected addition to the Severide family tree. Jack Damon (Michael Bradway) was Benny Severide’s youngest son, though he never got much time to interact with Benny. There’s a clear sense of hero worship with regard to Kelly when the character gets introduced in season 12.

Unfortunately, Damon’s stint at Firehouse 51 is cut short. He gets let go for disobeying a direct order in the field, and now works as a firefighter at another Firehouse. Him and Kelly still stay in touch.
