Shawn Ashmore on Chenford’s Relationship & The Rookie’s Wild ‘Purge’ Episode: “I’m Feeling Much Better”

Season 7 of The Rookie has been nothing short of thrilling, but Episode 12 took things to a whole new level with a chaotic April Fools’ Day-inspired “Purge” event. The episode, filled with high-stakes action and tense moments, left fans on edge—especially when it came to Officer Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) and Sergeant Tim Bradford (Eric Winter), known to fans as Chenford. Shawn Ashmore, who plays Wesley Evers, recently shared his thoughts on the episode’s madness and what it means for the beloved couple moving forward.

The Wild “Purge” Night Shakes Up the LAPD

In Episode 12, the LAPD found itself caught in a city-wide crime spree, as criminals used April Fools’ Day as an excuse for lawlessness. Officers faced an overwhelming amount of chaos, testing their ability to maintain control. One of the most intense moments involved Wesley Evers, who found himself in serious danger. Ashmore reflected on the episode’s action-packed nature, describing it as “one of the craziest nights in The Rookie history.” He praised the writers for crafting an episode that kept both the characters and the audience on edge.

“It was intense, to say the least,” Ashmore said. “The whole ‘Purge’ setup made for some of the most gripping scenes I’ve ever been a part of on this show.”

The “Purge” storyline, inspired by the popular horror film franchise, raised questions about the department’s ability to handle large-scale unrest. For Wesley, who is often caught between the legal system and his wife Angela Lopez’s (Alyssa Diaz) work as a detective, the night was a harsh reminder of the dangers surrounding him.

Hope for Chenford? Ashmore Weighs In

While the action took center stage, Episode 12 also gave fans some major developments regarding Chenford. The relationship between Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford has been a slow burn over multiple seasons, with many ups and downs. In recent episodes, the couple has struggled with professional and personal challenges, leading to uncertainty about their future together.

However, Ashmore offered some reassuring words for fans who are worried about their fate. “I’m feeling much better about where things are heading,” he said. “There have been a lot of obstacles, but sometimes, those are the things that make a relationship stronger.”

He hinted that while Tim and Lucy still have issues to work through, the writers have plans that will keep viewers invested in their story. “Fans should definitely keep watching because there’s more coming for them,” he teased.

What’s Next for The Rookie?

With Season 7 heading into its final stretch, the stakes are higher than ever. The LAPD is dealing with internal struggles, new enemies, and the lingering effects of recent traumatic events. Wesley’s legal battles, Angela’s fight for justice, and Chenford’s evolving relationship will all play crucial roles in the upcoming episodes.

As for Ashmore, he’s excited for fans to see what’s next. “This season has been incredible, and there’s still so much more to come,” he said. “If you thought Episode 12 was intense, just wait.”

With The Rookie continuing to deliver surprises, one thing is clear—April Fools’ Day won’t be the only thing keeping fans on their toes
