Sheriff Country will expand on a plot Fire Country touched on in season 1

We’re a year away from Sheriff Country’s debut on CBS but that doesn’t mean we don’t know anything about the Morena Baccarin-led spinoff set in the Fire Country universe. We were first introduced to Mickey Fox in season 2 episode 6, “Alert the Sheriff,” in a time of personal crisis for the lawwoman whose daughter Sky was recently checked into rehab.

Like with Bode’s story, this series will focus on the effect drugs has had on a family, however, for Mickey, this will extend beyond her child. She’s contending with the decades long aftermath of her father’s arrest due to being a dealer. It’d torn his marriage to Sharon’s mother apart and left the two sisters related by bond not by blood to pick up the pieces.

Seeing her nephew go down the wrong road, Mickey had been vigilant about ensuring her daughter was perfect. Sky inevitably wasn’t able to live up to her expectations. The gravity of her child’s situation has weighed on Mickey heavily. But, she also has immense empathy for people ravaged by their own choices and those who get caught up in the middle which is a key component of her character.

Therefore, it’s no wonder Sheriff Country is going to tackle a reality in Edgewater that its predecessor has only been able to minutely cover because its focus is firefighters. I’m referring to the drugs run throughout the area, particularly marijuana.

Fire Country episode 3 “Where There’s Smoke…” was about Mojave (Nick Gomez), an outlaw who was willing to go to extreme measures to protect his illegal crop even in the midst of a fire. There was also Sleeper who sold drugs out of Three Rock Fire Camp. But Mickey’s story has a chance to give us a fuller picture of what’s been going on with the town.

Collider reports that while at Fan Expo Canada, Morena Baccarin shared some details on this point:

“I have a daughter, and I am enmeshed in this sort of, like drama, political drama that’s happening in the town, having to do with illegal marijuana growth, which is what my dad got arrested for.”

The bit about the “political drama” is intriguing because Mickey’s intro episode did reveal that a lieutenant in the department was a part of the drug game in Edgewater. While he could have been the only one, he may not have been. Then, there’s the possibility that this goes higher up the chain than she might have thought.

Mickey hates people who betray the badge and the oath all law enforcement swear to protect and serve. It’s entirely probably that Sheriff Country season 1 could deal with a conspiracy as its season long arc. If so that would be a must-watch plot.
