Shock and Fury as NBC Cancels ‘Found’ and Four Other Fan-Favorite Series

NBC has announced it has axed five shows in total, with Found being one of them after just two seasons, and fans of the show have been left furious with the network

Fans of the popular show Found are expressing their disappointment on social media after NBC decided to cancel it after just two seasons. The network’s viewers are in shock as Found is only one of five major shows that NBC has recently discontinued.

The list of cancellations includes the reboot of the courtroom comedy, Night Court, which has now been dropped after three seasons, along with Lopez vs Lopez, The Irrational and Suits LA, a spinoff of the series that catapulted Meghan Markle to fame.

This news comes just before the Season 2 finale of Found, which has been promoted as a face-off between Gabi (Hampton) and Sir’s sister Lena (Danielle Savre). The episode, which will now serve as the series finale, is set to air on May 15. Found was cancelled on May 9, along with another NBC drama, The Irrational.

Despite coming from different studios – Found from Warner Bros. TV and The Irrational from Universal Television – both series had similar runs on the network.

Both shows were launched in fall 2023 as strike contingency during a period of scarcity of scripted originals on the broadcast network.

The dramas initially performed well on NBC and Peacock, with Found becoming NBC’s top launch on the streaming platform at the time, attracting 10.5M viewers across platforms in its first week, according to Deadline. By late November, both dramas had been renewed for a second season.

The 2024-25 broadcast schedule is jam-packed, and unfortunately, both Found and The Irrational have faced significant year-over-year ratings slumps, a major factor in the decision to pull the plug.

In its second season, Found underwent a major narrative shift—a sharp departure from one of the core aspects of its setup—with Sir (played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar) breaking free from Gabi’s (portrayed by Hampton) basement as seen in the Season 1 finale.

Against the backdrop of NBCUniversal’s blockbuster $2.5 billion yearly contract with the NBA, which ushers in 180 hours of prime basketball coverage next season, Found has been axed as part of NBC’s scaling back on entertainment content.

Found, featuring public relations whiz Gabi (Hampton), who had once been among the over 300,000 missing persons of color in America, and her crisis management squad were devoted to spotlighting those who go missing unnoticed.

The cast also included talents like Kelli Williams, Brett Dalton, Gabrielle Walsh, Arlen Escarpeta, and Karan Oberoi.

Enraged viewers took to Fans X, previously known as Twitter, to express their discontent about the show’s abrupt cancellation, with outraged comments surfacing like: “They canceled Found and I wanna fight.”

Others expressed their frustration more directly at the network, with tweets stating: “@nbc does an ABSOLUTELY horrible job of promoting shows that have an African American as its lead cast! Cannot believe #Found was canceled! #ThrowTheWholeNetworkAway! ! ! !” and “I’m so mad that @nbc canceled Found. Bring it back!”

Not to mention the straight-to-the-point sentiment from another fan: “I’m so mad they canceled Found.”

A fifth user lamented, “Just found out NBC canceled Found… I will admit that this season is different than last but it’s still a great show. I guess they had to make room time and money wise since they bought to air NBA games. I WONT BE WATCHING.”

Another disappointed fan remarked, “Damn they done canceled Found? ? They don’t give shows a chance no mo.”

An ardent viewer was outraged about other series getting the axe: “What a joke! 2 great sitcoms were cancelled. Night Court and Lopez vs Lopez! I pray that another streaming service picks them up.”

There was astonishment at the sweeping cancellations as one person stated: “NBC cancelled Found, Night Court, Lopez vs Lopez, The Irrational, Suits LA. 5 Shows. That’s a little crazy.”

Fans mourned the end of ‘Night Court’ with comments like, “Sorry to see Night Court canceled. It was my favorite,” while some simply shared, “loved it.” Frustration echoed through the voices of many, including one who said, “I am very disappointed.”
