Popular for her role in HBO’s acclaimed fantasy series Game of Thrones, which ran from 2011 to 2019, Nathalie Emmanuel has since been involved in multiple successful projects on both small and large screens. Emmanuel portrayed Missandei, a former slave promoted to Daenerys Targaryen‘s interpreter and one of her most trusted counselors throughout the show. The actress gained greater recognition by later starring in action films, including the Fast & Furious franchise. Another similar adrenaline-pumping production, but not as widely known, in which she was featured is The Killer, which has now quietly resurfaced on streaming charts.
The Killer is an action thriller film directed by John Woo as a remake of his 1989 Hong Kong film of the same name. It was released in the U.S. by the streaming service Peacock on August 23, 2024, and over a year later, it is trending on another platform globally. This week, The Killer made it to the top 10 movies on Prime Video, and as of this writing, it’s the #8 most popular on the streamer, right above Jason Statham’s A Working Man.
In the 2024 movie, the GOT star plays Zee, a professional and infamous hit woman living in Paris, known and feared in the Parisian underworld as the Queen of the Dead. But during an assignment from her shadowy mentor and handler, Zee refuses to kill a blinded young woman in a Paris nightclub. This decision disintegrates Zee’s alliances, draws the attention of a savvy police investigator, and plunges her into a sinister criminal conspiracy that sets her on a collision course with her own past.
‘The Killer’ Is Stacked with a Star-Studded Ensemble
In addition to Emmanuel, The Killer stars Avatar‘sSam Worthington as Finn, Zee’s handler and an Irishman working for crime lord Jules Gobert; Lupin’s Omar Sy as Sey; Space Force’s Diana Silvers as the blinded Jenn; as well as Eric Cantona and Saïd Taghmaoui. Besides directing, Woo produced the film alongside the Oscar-winning producer of Oppenheimer, Charles “Chuck” Roven, with Alex Gartner and Lori Tilkin deFelice. The Killer was both a critical and commercial failure, earning a little over $318,000 against its $30 million budget while holding a 59% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Killer is streaming on Prime Video worldwide. Follow Collider for future streaming information.
