The Connors represented a relatable blue collar American family in the late world of sitcoms where families were often idealized.
Now, the LA Times reports that the show “Roseanne,” which ran for 9 years starting in 1988, will return to the small screen with brand new episodes.
ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said, “The Conners’ joys and struggles are as relevant — and hilarious — today as they were then. There’s really no one better to comment on our modern America than Roseanne.”
Those who were big fans of the show and watched it to its completion despite a drop in ratings will remember that the last couple of seasons were rather odd. In the final season, Roseanne wins the lottery and the events following it were extremely far-fetched. Then, in the last episode it was revealed that Roseanne was living in a self-invented fantasy world to deal with the death of her husband, Dan. According to the cast list, Dan (played by John Goodman) will be returning to his role, so it will be interesting to see how the confusion is sussed out.
Fans will also be happy to note that both of the actresses who played Becky will return, with Lecy Goranson as Becky herself and Sarah Chalke as another character.
ABC 13 says that the new incarnation of the show will run in 2018, starting exactly 30 years after its original air date.
