Smart to End it Now: Blue Bloods Alum Shares Candid Thoughts on the Series Cancellation

Blue Bloods star Jennifer Esposito reflects on her time on the series and what its impending final episode means for the franchise’s legacy.

Speaking to ScreenRant, Esposito was open with her interpretation of the recent cancelation of the hit CBS police procedural. “Everything has to come to an end, and I think they’re smart to end it now,” Esposito said. “It’s been a long time.”

“I had some great times, of course, I had some not some fun times,” Esposito continued. “But, I love Donnie [Wahlberg], I met some great people there, and honestly, the fans — I still get asked, ‘Are you gonna go back to Blue Bloods?!’ And it’s like, ‘That’s, like, 10 years ago!’ That really warms my heart, so I couldn’t be mad at it. It was nice to go back.” Esposito’s Detective Jackie Curatola was on of the series’ main characters throughout its first three seasons. Despite being absent for seasons four through twelve, Esposito returned to the role of Detective Curatola as a recurring guest for its thirteenth and fourteenth seasons.

Blue Bloods Is Wrapping Up Its Run on TV

Blue Bloods‘ first season premiered on CBS in September 2010 and stars an ensemble cast including Tom Selleck in the role of New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan. The series also stars Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, and Will Estes, as Frank’s children and fellow members of the law enforcement and legal world, Detective Danny Reagan, Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan, Officer (later Sergeant) Jamie Reagan. Rounding out the original cast are Len Cariou as retired Commissioner Henry Reagan, Amy Carlson as Linda Reagan, Sami Gayle as Nicky Reagan-Boyle, and Tony and Andrew Terraciano as Jack and Sean Reagan, respectively.

In November 2023, it was officially announced that Blue Bloods would be coming to a close at the end of its fourteenth season. At the time, CBS president Amy Reisenbach and CBS Studios president David Stapf made a joint statement reading, “Blue Bloods will forever be a beloved part of CBS’ legacy.
