So Help Me Todd Season 3: Cancelation & Everything We Know

CBS’ quirky legal dramedy So Help Me Todd has been one of the network’s biggest sleeper hits for the last two seasons, but the network canceled the show before season 3. Premiering in 2022, So Help Me Todd concerns straight-laced lawyer Margaret (Marcia Gay Harden) who hires her down-and-out former P.I. son Todd (Skylar Astin) to be her law firm’s in-house investigator. Though initially skeptical of her adult son’s methods, she soon learns to trust his unorthodox instincts and natural ability to solve cases.

Despite the show’s lackluster critical reception, So Help Me Todd managed to be one of the most unique primetime series with its combination of humor and mystery. On top of that, the relationship between Margaret and Todd is perhaps the most important thread in the series, which lends it elements of family drama as well. Season 1 drew in enough of an audience to warrant a second season, but the sophomore outing was not enough to keep So Help Me Todd on the air.

So Help Me Todd Season 3 Is Canceled

Though So Help Me Todd season 1 garnered enough of an audience to warrant a second season, the sophomore outing wasn’t enough to save So Help Me Todd season 3 from cancelation. Though the show was canceled by CBS, So Help Me Todd was a solid-enough performer to get renewed if the conditions were right, but the show was likely axed to make room for new programing on the network. The legal dramedy wasn’t the only major CBS cancelation, and CSI: Vegas was also given the boot before its fourth season.

So Help Me Todd Season 3 Cast

Like most lawyer and legal drama shows, the storylines in So Help Me Todd are relatively low-stakes, which means characters aren’t being killed off. This means the entire main cast of the series was expected back for season 3, and little turnover was likely. The most important returns would have been those of Marcia Gay Harden as Margaret and Skylar Astin as Todd since their family dynamic is the heart of the series. If either of the two leads were unable to return, So Help Me Todd would have ceased to be the same show.

So Help Me Todd Season 3 Story

Though it’s impossible to predict exactly what would have happened in season 3, there are a few long-running threads that would likely have continued past the sophomore season. Todd’s compulsive lying would have continued to get him into trouble, and it would take his wit and his mother’s persistence to get him out of the jams he puts himself in to help others. Likewise, Margaret’s messy relationships would probably only get more complicated as she tried to balance being a middle-aged divorcee with her high-powered career. So Help Me Todd season 3 had a lot to work with, but fans will never get to see it.
