Sansa Stark actress Sophie Turner got a Game of Thrones tattoo of her character’s family sigil. Did she spoil the series finale for fans of the show?
For years, Game of Thrones fans theorized how the series might end, and Sophie Turner’s Game of Thrones tattoo, and whether it was a spoiler, was part of the speculation. Sansa Stark (Turner) is one of the few leading Game of Thrones lead characters to survive the entire series, including the series finale “The Iron Throne.” While the Game of Thrones finale was highly anticipated, it was so poorly received that the episode ruined Games of Thrones entirely for some viewers. The biggest criticism about Game of Thrones season 8 as a whole is that the final season felt rushed, and that characters got unearned, or downright unsatisfactory, endings.
While the Stark family did not have it easy on the show, Sophie Turner’s Sansa Stark ends the series by being crowned Queen in the North. Many aspects of the Game of Thrones finale were criticized, but one piece of the show that earned steady approval throughout its final season was Sansa’s arc. At the start of the series, Sansa is immature and shies away from challenges, but by the end of Game of Thrones, Sansa is a fierce survivor and leader of her people. Before the show’s final season premiered, Turner caused a stir when fans wondered if her Game of Thrones tattoo was a spoiler about Sansa’s family.
Sophie Turner Didn’t Intend For Her Game Of Thrones Tattoo To Be A Spoiler
In 2018, Sophie Turner got a Game of Thrones tattoo under her left elbow done by tattoo artist Lauren Winzer. The tattoo is of the House Stark direwolf sigil, with “The pack survive” written underneath. After the tattoo became public knowledge, some Game of Thrones fans took it as confirmation that the Starks survive the show’s final season and possibly rule the Iron Throne. Following the widespread speculation, Turner appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden in June 2018 and discussed the tattoo.
On the talk show, Turner explained that she was told not to get the tattoo before the final season of Game of Thrones because it could be interpreted as a spoiler. But she decided to get is tattoo anyway because it referenced a quote from a previous season of Game of Thrones, saying, “It’s just a quote from last season. Everyone figures that the pack really does survive, but it’s just a moral that I like to live by.” Corden urged Turner to give details about the final season, but the actress refused, showing her dedication to keeping the plot of Game of Thrones season 8 a secret.
Game Of Thrones Co-Stars Sophie Turner & Maisie Williams Got Matching Tattoos
The direwolf sigil tattoo is not the only Game of Thrones tattoo that Sophie Turner has. In 2016, Turner and her co-star Maisie Williams got matching tattoos. They were done by tattoo artist Kat Paine, and are light-colored tattoos that read, “07.08.09,” which represents the day both Turner and Williams found out they were cast as sisters Sansa and Arya Stark in Game of Thrones. In the show, Sansa and Arya are loyal to one another, but they are not necessarily close friends and have a complicated relationship. And while playing the Stark sisters, Turner and Williams became inseparable best friends even after Game of Thrones finished filming.
