Station 19: Fans “rebel” over ABC’s decision to end the series

As Station 19 prepares to close a 7-season run on ABC, fans are getting worked up over how the show is honoring the end of a TV era.

Ahead of part 1 of the drama’s 2-part series finale airing May 23, fans got to see the cast pay tribute to all the memories they shared while working on Station 19. In a clip posted on Instagram on May 17, Jaina Lee Ortiz, Boris Kodjoe, Jason George, Barrett Doss, Jay Hayden and more reflected on the camaraderie they built while filming the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff. The actors got emotional and even teared up watching behind-the-scenes snippets.

“As this season comes to a close, take a look back with us at what made nineteen, nineteen. ❤️,” read the caption. “Watch the #Station19 two-part series finale starting Thursday on ABC. Stream on Hulu.”

When fans caught wind that Station 19 posted a public declaration honoring the legacy of the series, many took to the comments to voice their sadness over the show ending.

“I will never forgive ABC for taking away from us this amazing cast, crew and show,” one person lamented. “This went straight through my heart 💔 … I’m not ready to say goodbye yet 🥺,” another wrote. “Literally SOBBING. I’m so grateful for them and not ready for this show to end ☹️☹️☹️,” a different follower added.

Fans may remember that Jaina addressed the Station 19 cancellation news on a December 2023 episode of her podcast After We Wrap, noting how thrown off the cast members were upon learning the fate of the show.

“It came as a shock. We weren’t told why … there wasn’t any reason behind it, so everyone was left pretty confused and heartbroken,” she said at the time. “I like to sit into what we’ve had and not let the sadness take over.”

As far as what’s to come on Station 19, the final episode is titled “One Last Time” and will air on Thursday, May 30 at 10 p.m. ET.
