ABC has officially renewed Station 19, the firefighter-focused spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy, for a seventh season. As part of the renewal, Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige have been appointed as new showrunners, taking over from Krista Vernoff, who is stepping down from her roles on both Grey’s and Station 19.
With Grey’s Anatomy already renewed for its 20th season, the renewal of Station 19 was widely anticipated, pending finalizing deals for Clack and Paige. The series will join a lineup of previously renewed ABC shows for the 2023-24 broadcast schedule, including Abbott Elementary, The Good Doctor, The Rookie, and Will Trent.
In its sixth season, Station 19 emerged as a standout, ranking as the No. 1 series on Thursdays at 8 p.m. among women aged 18-49 and 25-54, and landing in the top 10 broadcast dramas for women aged 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54. The upcoming season will celebrate the milestone of the show’s 100th episode.
Clack, who has been part of Grey’s since its inception, initially joined as a medical adviser and later became head writer and executive producer for Station 19. She expressed her excitement about leading the show alongside Paige, highlighting the diversity and talent of the cast and crew.
Paige, who directed in the fourth season and became an executive producer in season six, shared his enthusiasm for taking the reins. He noted the show’s rich characters and significant stories, promising intriguing developments in the upcoming season.
With Clack and Paige stepping in, Station 19 marks a new chapter while continuing to be helmed by the influential Shondaland team, which includes executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers. The cast features Jaina Lee Ortiz, Jason George, Grey Damon, and more, all of whom are expected to return for the new season.
