Station 19 Review: No Days Off (Season 3 Episode 11)

Is there even such a thing as a day off in adulthood? They’re not fighting fires, but the firehouse is still doing work on Station 19 Season 3 Episode 11, “No Days Off.”

Travis’ biggest mistake is not the way he continues to judge Emmett (he says he doesn’t judge him anymore, but that’s BS), but instead coming to the firehouse on his day off. Nothing good ever comes from being at work when you don’t need to be.

He has the patience of a saint, though, that’s for sure. Emmett’s girlfriend, Alicia, is actually the worst. She is obnoxious and completely oblivious to the world around her.

“You seem so straight!”

Really? What rock is she living under? We don’t say that in 2020!

Travis’ “don’t ever talk to me again” speech is rather vicious. If he truly cares about Emmett, calling him “weak” is not the way to show it. Words are often underestimated in terms of their power. Travis essentially tells Emmett he doesn’t believe in him with no clue of the damage he may do.

All of this once again begs the question of what Travis sees in him. Hopefully, we get some clarity following next week’s recycling plant fire.

While last week’s therapist visit had zero impact on Travis, it looks like Jack took his session to heart. Jack is usually very stubborn, so taking proactive steps to combat his loneliness shows just how much he has grown. For one character to change so much not even in the span of one season, but just ten episodes, is impressive. It’s a huge relief seeing him play with Pru instead of pining over Andy

Andy and Sullivan’s lunch with Pruitt is… weird. Pruitt’s opinion is irrelevant; that Andy does not realize she is a grown-ass woman and can date whomever she likes is concerning. Even more concerning is that she is well aware of what happened with her mother.

The question of whether Pruitt “forced” Andy’s mother out of the academy aside, Andy has firsthand experience of what happens when others get in your head. The people responsible for this experience, of course, being the two men she’s out to eat with.

The first half of the story with Sullivan and ICE feels like we’re being preached to instead of watching a show. Once ICE arrives, though, the story comes together nicely as the team bands together to save a life in a different way.

Sullivan implying he and Andy should get married is something I can’t even wrap my head around, so I’m going to wait to see what next week brings before discussing it.

Oh, and Jackson is at the restaurant, too, because of course he is.

Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy really need to up their crossover game. Owen? Yes! Teddy? Awesome! Jackson? Again? Using Ben as the only reason these crossovers happen takes away from the “shared universe” feel. It’s not a shared universe if only one person at Station 19 is friends with everyone at Grey Sloan.

Circling back to Jack and how much he has changed, Maya, too, is crushing the growth game. She loves her job and she is good at it, but even Olympic gold medalists need to clear their heads.

Plus, she and Carina are really good together. Carina has somehow solved the mystery of how to calm Maya down. Fingers crossed it lasts.
