As Station 19 enters the second half of its final season, fans are holding out hope that beloved characters Ben Warren and Carina DeLuca might make their way back to Grey’s Anatomy. While nothing has been confirmed yet, Station 19 showrunner Peter Paige recently teased that discussions are ongoing, hinting that the pair’s return to the medical drama could be a possibility.
After a prolonged wait due to the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, Station 19’s shortened Season 7 is already halfway through. Meanwhile, Grey’s Anatomy was recently renewed for its 21st season, sparking speculation among fans about the crossover potential. Ben (Jason George) and Carina (Stefania Spampinato) were both introduced on Grey’s Anatomy before moving over to the spinoff, and it makes sense that their storylines could tie back into the original medical series.
When asked about the potential return of Ben and Carina to Grey’s Anatomy, Paige played coy, noting that while the decision ultimately lies with Grey’s showrunner Meg Marinis and the higher-ups at ABC, the Station 19 team has been involved in the conversation. He told TV Line: “It’s not ultimately our decision, but it’s a conversation we’ve perhaps been a part of.”
Marinis, when asked the same question, seemed to put the ball back in Station 19’s court, mentioning that she hadn’t seen the final two scripts and wasn’t sure about the intentions of Paige and fellow showrunner Zoanne Clack for Ben and Carina’s future.
The possibility of Ben’s return is especially tantalizing, as a recent preview for Station 19‘s episode “My Way” teased a dangerous situation for the first responders, with Ben caught in a fire at the Space Needle. His fate in this episode could determine whether he continues his high-risk life as a firefighter or decides to make a major career change, which could set the stage for his return to Grey’s Anatomy.
As for Carina, it seems just as plausible that she could return to the medical drama, especially given the ongoing Marina storyline and their expanding family. Additionally, actress Danielle Savre has previously guest-starred on Grey’s as Carina’s wife Maya, which may open the door for future crossovers, especially considering Savre’s off-screen connection to Grey’s star Kevin McKidd (Dr. Owen Hunt).
While the Station 19 showrunners remain tight-lipped about the specifics, Peter Paige’s recent comments suggest that discussions about Ben and Carina’s future are actively taking place. As Station 19 continues its final season, fans can look forward to more twists and turns, and perhaps even a reunion with the characters on Grey’s Anatomy in the near future.
