Savre made her final appearance as Maya Bishop in Shondaland’s firefighting series earlier this month, following its unexpected cancellation after seven seasons.

Over the course of the series, Maya became a lieutenant, and eventually Captain at the beloved fire station.

The character notably began a relationship with Grey’s Anatomy doctor Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato) in season three, with the fan-favourite couple getting married in the season four finale.

In 2019, Savre spoke to Digital Spy about playing a bisexual character on the show and thanked fans for the response she has received.

“To get the response that I have and to be part of the Shondaland world, which is so great at representing the LGBTQ community, has been a huge gift,” she said.

“With Maya, she’s a fully developed, layered, well-rounded character who has all of these complexities like everyone who is part of the LGBTQ community has.

“I’m so lucky to get to play her, and I’m so happy that fans love her as much as they do. I love playing her. It’s been fun. It’s been a great ride, and I hope we get to do it for years and years to come.”

Grey’s Anatomy season 20 and Station 19‘s final season aired on ABC in the US. Both shows stream on Disney+ in the UK, with season 21 of Grey’s to air later this year.
