Stella Kidd is back in action, but the risks are greater than ever.
We may have to wait multiple weeks before we get new episodes of Chicago Fire, but at least NBC was nice enough to drop off the promos for the upcoming episodes. There’s already been lots of talk about the relationship between Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) in upcoming episodes, but the promo for 1210 has taken us completly by surprise.
The promo sees Severide and Kidd attempt to navigate a freak accident in which a car is smashed into the side of a building. The driver of the car is still alive, but the car is tenatively perched inside the second story of the building, meaning it could fall at any moment. It’s not a good situation for anyone involved, but Kidd takes control and tries to get the driver out of the car.

The promo shows Severide aiding from the inside of the building, but things take a turn for the worse by the end. The apparatis that Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) and the rest of the 51 team set up to make sure the car doesn’t fall begins to crumble while Kidd is still on top of the car. Severide can be seen yelling at her through the windshield, telling her she’s “got this.”
The look on Kidd’s face, however, suggests that she may not. Kidd is one of the most capable people in the entire 51, so for her to be scared, something has to be seriously wrong. The last frame of the promo is a doozy, as the car starts to fall out of the building and Severide tries to leverage his body weight by jumping on the bumper.

We’re pretty confident that Kidd will survive her ordeal. The Chicago Fire promos are great at making things appear more severe than they are in the episode (such is the business of television), but we’ve got to admit: it looks bad. Our confidence has less to do with what we’ve been shown and more with what Chicago Fire showunner Andrea Newman told us about Kidd in future episodes.
Since we know she’s at the forefront of the rest of the season, we know she can’t get too badly injured. Thank goodness.
