Now this is a home Blanche Devereaux would approve of. The former home of Rue McClanahan, the late actress who portrayed Blanche on the popular sitcom The Golden Girls, is on the market for $5.495 million.
While it’s not the Miami, Florida home that Blanche shared with Rose, Dorothy, and Sophia, we think the southern belle would have felt right at home in this 5,368-square-foot house in Encino, California (located about 30 minutes from downtown Los Angeles). The sprawling home sits on 2.61 acres and was designed by Arthur Kelly, who was also the architect of the Playboy Mansion.
Inside, you’ll find four bedrooms and six bathrooms, plus a living room with walk-in bar, large kitchen, music room, home theater, gym, and even a maid’s quarters. The large master suite has plenty of closet space, a dressing room, and a private bathroom that leads to a patio and an outdoor spa.
Outside, there’s plenty to do and see—the listing describes the exterior as “a cross between a botanical garden and a national forest.” Along with the numerous gardens, there’s a custom waterfall and creek, a gazebo, and rock-rimmed swimming pool. According to the Los Angeles Times, McClanahan purchased the home in 1988 and sold the property seven years later to its current owners.
