Earlier this month, everyone’s current favorite procedural dramedy on CBS, Elsbeth, made a surprising addition to its next season, in the form of TV host Stephen Colbert, not long after his late-night talk show was cancelled. Colbert was added in a guest capacity, portraying Scotty Bristol, host of the fictional talk show Way Late With Scotty Bristol. He joins an impressive list of guest stars on the drama, which returns this October. But before then, CBS has provided a glimpse at what the icon may be up to in the new Season 3 premiere images.
As seen in the gallery below, Colbert’s character seems to be getting cozy with his head writer, Laurel, while another image shows him interviewing Marcia DeBonis’ Sheryl on the set of Way Late With Scotty Bristol. You may recall that in Elsbeth Season 2, Episode 9, the title character met Sheryl at the wellness retreat and opened up to her about the secrets of her life in Chicago that were coming back to haunt her. Meanwhile, Judge Crawford (Michael Emerson) has already leaked the information that prompted Elsbeth to leave Chicago in a panic. With that, in the interview, Sheryl may be revealing details about her connection to the lawyer who has since become a scandalous public figure, though fans will have to find out when Elsbeth returns!
In Elsbeth Season 3, Episode 1, titled “Yes, And…,” the eponymous character, portrayed by Carrie Preston, dives into the world of late-night comedy when backstage tensions rise between a talk show host, Scotty (Colbert), his head writer, Laurel (Amy Sedaris), and her on-air sidekick husband, Mickey (Andy Richter). Also, Elsbeth meets a new police officer (Lindsay Mendez) who is an aspiring stand-up comic when off the clock.
Who Else Guest Stars in ‘Elsbeth’ Season 3?
Following Colbert’s addition to Elsbeth Season 3, Uncut Gems star Julia Fox was also tapped as a guest star, joining David Cross, whose casting was announced on August 13. Other guest stars are Sedaris, Richter, and Mendez, who will appear in the Season 3 premiere. Speaking of Fox’s character, she will portray Raquel Drabowski, a New York City “grief influencer” and widow from Staten Island, who transformed herself into an upscale NYC Grief Influencer and reality star on the hit dating series Black Veil. In addition to the aforementioned guest stars, the upcoming season will feature several guest-star alumni, including Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Jane Krakowski, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Mary-Louise Parker, David Alan Grier, Alan Ruck, and Tracey Ullman, among many others.
