The #OneChicago franchise is staying put.
NBC has renewed Chicago Fire for Season 14 and and also picked up spinoffs Chicago Med (for Season 11) and Chicago P.D. (for Season 13), TVLine has learned.
Season-to-date, Chicago Fire is averaging 7.9 million total viewers (with delayed playback), down just 9% from last year and ranking No. 1 amongst all the dramas NBC has aired this TV season. Out of all broadcast dramas, it ranks fifth.
Chicago Med (7.6 million viewers) is off just 5% from last year, and is NBC’s second-most watched drama, while Chicago P.D. (7 million viewers) is down 10% year-over-year and ranks No. 3 amongst NBC dramas.
The renewals come following the news that there will be some cast changes next season: It was reported earlier this month by our sister site Deadline that Jake Lockett (aka firefighter Sam Carver) and Daniel Kyri (aka firefighter Darren Ritter) will not return to show as “part of an effort to trim the budget” of the long-running series. The trio of Chicago shows will be back with new episodes this Wednesday, May 7; their season finales are slated to air May 21.
In the Med season ender (airing at 8/7c), “following orders, Goodwin is tasked with enforcing difficult cuts to hospital personnel,” reads the official episode description. “Charles’ daughter is hospitalized after a car accident. A transplant patient makes a life-changing decision.”
In Fire’s finale (airing at 9 pm), “Severide puts his job on the line to help out one of their own. Kidd navigates Natalie’s complicated relationship with her sister. Herrmann prepares to take the Chief test.”
A P.D. finale synopsis has not been released yet, but showrunner Gwen Sigan previously told TVLine that “Intelligence ups their pursuit of dirty Deputy Chief Reid. As things escalate and Reid shows himself to be a formidable opponent, Voight finds himself battling his own instincts. Meanwhile, Ruzek and Burgess’ wedding fast approaches, Chapman grows closer to Voight, and Torres faces the emotional fall out of his actions.”
