Happy Almost Pride! This week on Autostraddle, we’re celebrating with a roundup of highlights. Kayla recapped the finale of Hacks, while Riese covered the last episode of Under the Bridge. Plus, Drew has compiled a list of queer movies perfect for Pride.
In the world of Station 19, our favorite couple, Carina and Maya, take center stage in the series finale, and it’s a whirlwind of emotion and excitement.
A Fiery Finale
After seven seasons, Station 19 has officially concluded, but the bonds formed over the years will remain. In the finale titled “One Last Time,” Maya miraculously survives a devastating brush fire, thanks in part to a motivational nudge from Andy, reminding her to focus on her loved ones. The finale employs the Happy Ending Fast Forward (TM) device to ease our anxiety as the characters navigate the chaos of the season’s climax.
For Carina and Maya, this fast-forward reveals a future filled with love and family. We witness Carina supporting Maya during labor, adding a playful twist when she redirects Maya’s hands for some “natural pain relief.”
Carina in Action
And let’s not overlook the absolute fire of the moment when Carina suits up in a firefighter uniform to deliver a baby amid the flames. Is it hot? Absolutely! Stefania Spampinato’s entrance in that uniform is a standout moment that fans won’t forget.
A Bright Future
The finale also highlights Maya stepping into her role as captain of Station 19, this time on her own terms. The homage to her iconic bisexual bob from earlier seasons was a nice touch, even if the wig choice was a bit off. The closing scenes show their future family with three kids, including baby Prue, who grows up to join the firefighting ranks.
With Andy becoming Seattle’s Fire Chief and Maya reclaiming her captaincy, the DeLuca-Bishop family is in good hands.
As we celebrate the end of this beloved series, we can’t wait to see what’s next for Carina and Maya in this vibrant, loving universe. Here’s to the memories and the hopeful future they’ve built together!
