Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit are set to guest star in the upcoming spinoff series “S.W.A.T. Exiles,” Variety has learned.
Both Harrington and St. Esprit will reprise their “S.W.A.T” roles in the “Exiles” pilot episode. Harrington played Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay and St. Esprit played Commander Robert Hicks throughout the original eight-season run at CBS.
As previously announced, Shemar Moore will lead the cast of “Exiles” as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. Sony Pictures Television is producing the 10-episode series, which does not currently have a network or streaming home.
Harrington is repped by UTA, A Management Company, and Brecheen Feldman Breimer
Silver Thompson. St. Esprit is repped by Justice & Ponder.
The official logline for the new series states:
“After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson (Moore) is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental SWAT unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is.”
Production is scheduled to begin later in September in Los Angeles and will utilize the same production crew that worked on the original show.
Jason Ning serves as showrunner and executive producer. Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film also executive produce along with Moore, James Scura, and Jon Cowan. Sony Pictures Television produces and distributes the series globally.
The reboot of “S.W.A.T” debuted on CBS in 2017. The broadcast network originally canceled the show after its sixth season, only to reverse course and announce it would be back for a seventh and final season. Then, the show earned an eighth season reprieve, only to be canceled once again in March.
