The former “Basketball Wives” star sat down with Kandi Burruss on her YouTube show alongside her daughter Jazz Anderson and Kandi’s daughter Riley, but what started as a lighthearted mother-daughter chat turned into a tough conversation about acceptance.
When Kandi shared how she didn’t like one of Riley’s exes but really likes her current boyfriend, Jazz used that moment to open up about her own situation. “Since it’s Pride Month, I have to say this,” Jazz said. “You’ve met Riley’s guys and can judge them, but I’ve never had that moment with my mom.”
Kandi asked what she meant, and Jazz revealed that her mother refuses to meet her girlfriend. “She doesn’t want to meet the women I bring around,” Jazz said. “The person I’m with now has a positive impact on my life — she even got me back in church. I wish my mom could see that.”’
Tami didn’t deny it. She confirmed that Jazz’s girlfriend won’t even be at her upcoming graduation. “She can’t be in attendance,” she said flatly. When Kandi pushed back, reminding Tami that her other daughter, Lyric, could bring boyfriends around, Tami stood her ground.
“There’s something called confirmation bias,” she explained. “My daughter is heterosexual, so it’s easier for me to understand that. I need time to figure out how this works for me so I can be comfortable. I still love her, but I have to protect my mental health.”
Kandi didn’t let that slide, telling Tami, “Okay, but you’re not graduating — she is.” Still, Tami doubled down, saying she’d meet Jazz’s girlfriend only after they’d been together at least two years. Jazz pointed out how unfair that was and how many moments her mom would miss in the meantime. Tami didn’t budge, even vaping mid-conversation and admitting she’s “picking every day.” Jazz fired back, reminding her mom she didn’t get the same choice when Tami married Reggie Youngblood without her or Lyric present.
