Good news for Chicago Fire fans: Taylor Kinney is headed back as Lieutenant Kelly Severide when the series returns for Season 12 in 2024.
With the writers room reopened after the WGA strike, early scripts confirm Severide’s presence. What’s still unclear is whether Kinney is back full-time or briefly returning to close out his storyline after stepping away last January for personal reasons.
On screen, Severide’s absence was explained as special arson-investigation training in Alabama. Later, Stella learned he’d finished the program and secretly taken on an active case—setting the stage for where Season 12 may pick up.
