Taylor Sheridan’s Epic Action Thriller Series Unveils a Pulse-Pounding Season 3 Renewal

Taylor Sheridan’s ever-growing TV empire just got another boost, with hit series Special Ops: Lioness – often just called Lioness – now seemingly confirmed to be getting a third season very soon. Although there has not yet been an official announcement about Season 3 from Paramount, the show’s South African streaming home, Showmax, has let the cat out of the bag about the fate of the series and how long fans will have to wait to see a new season arrive.

Lioness debuted in 2023 and focuses on a CIA program designed to shut down terrorist cells from the inside. Joe (Zoe Saldana) leads her team of trained operatives into some deadly situations, while the program is overseen by Kaitlyn Meade (Nicole Kidman). The first season introduced Laysla De Oliveira as Cruz Manuelos, a Marine tasked with walking a treacherous line of infiltrating the inner circles of some ruthless targets, while the cast also included appearances from Morgan Freeman and Michael Kelly, adding some heavyweight names as many of Sheridan’s offerings do.

Fans have been incredibly frustrated at the lack of official updates on Season 3, especially when Season 2 aired in November/December 2024 to incredible reviews and strong viewership numbers. Now it seems that they have finally been given the news that they have been waiting for, and Season 3 appears to be not only confirmed, but heading to screens “soon.” This comes on the back of Showmax’s response to a fan question about when the show would be returning, to which they replied:

Fans of Lioness may have been left waiting a long time to hear whether they will get to see another season of the action series, but fans of Taylor Sheridan are never short of something new to watch as he continues to dominate the world of streaming, particularly on Paramount+. Following last year’s release of Landman, his latest series which stars Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, and Demi Moore, along with the final season of Yellowstone, Sheridan’s shows at one point occupied the top five spots on Paramount+’s streaming chart.

As well as his many Western-themed shows, which are currently continuing with the second season of Yellowstone prequel, 1923, Sheridan also has new seasons of Mayor of Kingstown, with MCU star Jeremy Renner, and Tulsa King, starring Sylvester Stallone, also on the way. That is in addition to several other Yellowstone spinoffs that are also in development.

Lioness fans may not have the official word from Paramount that Season 3 is on the way, but with Saldana having recently revealed that she was originally signed up for three seasons, and Showmax’s recent post, are probably good enough of a reason to start celebrating and prepare for the next chapter in this crowd-pleasing series.
