Tears and Farewells: Sheldon Faces His Toughest Goodbyes Yet in Series Finale md13

Young Sheldon is just two episodes away from the series finale, and it’s time for Sheldon Cooper to say goodbye to a lot of his childhood in Young Sheldon season 7, episode 12, “A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture.” With just over 40 days until he’s set to move away to California to attend Caltech, Sheldon accepts that it’s time to say goodbye to some of his favorite things about Medford, Texas.

Sheldon’s goodbyes start off smoothly, until he realizes, with George Cooper’s new job offer, he’s going to have to say goodbye to his home for good when they sell the house. Young Sheldon season 7, episode 12 is big on family bonding “while they’re all still together.” And though the direct words are meant to speak to Sheldon’s move, it actually foreshadows the last minute of the episode that ultimately tears the Coopers apart and forces Sheldon to say an even bigger goodbye than losing his childhood room.

In this article, we take a look at how saying goodbye to his childhood affects Sheldon in Young Sheldon season 7, episode 12, and how Sheldon’s first friend, Tam, plays into it all.

Sheldon’s Entire Life Is Shaken Up In Episode 12 Of Young Sheldon Season 7

Sheldon made the decision to attend Caltech in Young Sheldon season 7, episode 9, but as the countdown leading to Sheldon’s big move to California closes in, he prepares to say goodbye to Medford.

Sheldon is excited for his move to California, until he learns that his father was offered a job coaching college football in Houston, meaning the family would sell the house and move away. Though Sheldon was already leaving, he does not want to lose his childhood room, which has always been his safe place.

“Just because I don’t want to come back to a place doesn’t mean I don’t want to have a place that I don’t want to come back to.”

Sheldon goes out of his way to try to keep his childhood room, even suggesting someone close to him purchase the house and keep his room as it is now. It’s then Sheldon is made aware that it’s not so much losing the home that has him upset. The truth is Sheldon is scared of moving to California alone, and he’s nervous that he’ll get there and no one will like him.

With Sheldon’s move approaching fast, his mom, Mary Cooper, wants the family to take a picture altogether while they still can. As they wait for George to return home, the most tragic Young Sheldon storyline takes center stage. George Cooper does not make it home for the family picture. His friends/coworkers, Coach Wilkins and Tom Petersen, show up at the front door with the devastating news that George Cooper suffered a heart attack and did not make it.

Sheldon was prepared to leave home, he was ready to say goodbye to his friend Tam, to his high school, to East Texas Tech; he was even accepting the idea of saying goodbye to the family home. But Sheldon was not ready to say goodbye to his father, George Cooper.
