That Was Fast! Tom Selleck Already Has an Idea For His Next Job After Blue Bloods md20

Tom Selleck gave his last performance as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods‘ series finale in December 2024. But that may not be the last time fans see the Magnum P.I. alum in a family drama.

In an interview with Parade before Blue Bloods‘ series finale, Selleck, who starred on the NBC police procedural drama for its whole 14-season run, revealed that he hopes to work with Yellowstone creator, Taylor Sheridan, again in his next role. “A good Western’s always on my list,” he said. “I miss that; I want to sit on a horse again,” Selleck said, referencing his work with Sam Elliot in Sheridan’s Yellowstone spinoff, 1883, in 2021.  “Sam was great in [1883], Sam’s always great. We go way, way back. I love him dearly. I’d love to work with Sam.”

Selleck, who also joked that he doesn’t necessarily have “offers pouring in” for his next role, also named CBS’ Jesse Stone TV movie series — which  Selleck filmed nine of from 2005 to 2015 — as a project he would like to revisit.

“I don’t know where my next job will take me,” he said. “People ask, ‘What do you want to do next?’ I’m not sure. I don’t want to do Frank Reagan II.”

He continued, “I’m open to suggestions because I love Frank Reagan, but nobody’s really asked. I don’t see him retiring and going off somewhere. If he goes off to a small town, I’d rather do more Jesse Stone movies.”

When asked if another Jesse Stone movie was in the works, Selleck confirmed that he hasn’t “worked on it yet,” but he wouldn’t be surprised if it happened. “It would be an interesting challenge because Jesse is older now,” he said. “There’ve been quite a few years between shows. That doesn’t mean he isn’t a viable character. Everywhere I go one of the things I get asked is, ‘When can I see another Jesse Stone?’”

Selleck, an original cast member on Blue Bloods, starred on the series from Seasons 1 to 14 as Francis Xavier “Frank” Reagan, a commissioner for the New York City Police Department and the patriarch of the series. After CBS announced its decision to cancel Blue Bloods in November 2023, Selleck seemed to express his frustrations with the network for ending the series.  “I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn!’ I don’t believe in holding grudges. But if you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe,” he told TV Insider in October 2024.
