The Chicago Fire cast is getting a new addition, and you may recognize him. New Kids on the Block member Joey McIntyre will be guest starring in the upcoming Season 12 episode “Under Pressure.” So, who does Joey McIntyre play on Chicago Fire? Here’s everything to know about the singer’s role on the hit show.
Who does Joey McIntyre play on Chicago Fire Season 12?
Famed singer Joey McIntyre will be portraying Lorenzo, a firefighter at one of Firehouse 51’s rival stations, in the Season 12 episode “Under Pressure,” which airs on May 15. The New Kids on the Block member announced his guest role on Instagram on May 13. “Surprise! Had a blast repping a rival firehouse with these good people on @NBCOneChicago fans: tune in to see me in the role of “Lorenzo” on #ChicagoFire this Wednesday at 9/8c on @NBC!” he wrote alongside several behind-the-scenes photos.
Per the episode’s official description, Lorenzo will face off against Tony (Tony Ferraris) and Capp (Randy Flagler) as they compete to break a world record. Elsewhere in the episode, Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Violet (Hanako Greensmith) clash with Paramedic Chief Robinson (Laura Allen) and Cruz (Joe Minoso) faces marriage issues with wife Chloe (Kristen Gutoskie).
McIntyre’s Instagram photos show him suited up in firefighter gear and posing with several cast members, including Ferraris, Minoso, Kinney, Greensmith and Season 12 newcomer Jocelyn Hudon.
The guest role is not McIntyre’s first foray into acting or network television. He’s also appeared in Angie Tribeca, The Goldbergs, Psych and CSI: NY. Most recently, he starred in the four-part Lifetime series Dawn.
Fellow New Kids on the Block member Donnie Wahlberg commented on McEnytre’s post, writing: “Let’s go! 🔥.” Wahlberg also made the shift to acting and is no stranger to primetime. He currently stars on CBS’ Blue Bloods as Danny Reagan, a role he’s held since the show first debuted in 2010. Under his comment, several fans urged Wahlberg to get McIntyre on the show. “@donniewahlberg still waiting on @joeymcintyre to be on blue bloods,” one fan wrote. Another chimed in: “Ummmm omg my 2 fave new kids on my 2 fave shows.”
Blue Bloods is currently on its final season, so a cameo from McEntyre would have to happen soon. In March 2024, Wahlberg revealed that he would love to have his bandmate on the show and he’s been trying to make it happen for years. “Listen, I’ve been trying,” Wahlberg said on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live. “It’s a no brainer for Joey to do it, and I’m sure he’d be willing if there was a good part, but it just hasn’t been the right thing.” He went on to detail how his executive producer asked him what his “bucket list item” for the show was.
“I said, ‘Yes. Get freaking Joey on the show because you told me you were gonna get him on the show a decade ago and we’re still waiting.’ So we’ll see,” Wahlberg recalled, adding: “It’s a bucket list for me on the show for sure.” Wahlberg also proposed that McEntyre portray a “love interest” for Danny’s partner Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez). The pair have had a will-they-won’t-they romance for years, and Wahlberg noted how a new love interest for Baez would make his character “jealous.”
Of the New Kid on the Block members, only Jordan Knight has appeared on Blue Bloods. The other members — Danny Wood and Jonathan Knight — have not dabbled in acting.
Chicago Fire airs on NBC on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST and streams on Peacock.
