“That’s My Dream”: ‘Chicago Fire’ Star Teases Crossover Idea With ‘Law & Order SVU’

When it comes to fictional TV worlds, it doesn’t get bigger than Dick Wolf‘s universe. They comprise mainly the One Chicago, the FBIs, and Law & Order franchises, each of which is set within an individual self-contained universe. Crossovers are common within the world of each franchise, some happening casually while others come on a larger scale, bringing together each show within a franchise. A recent example of the latter happened in early 2025 with the One Chicago shows, where the worlds of Chicago FireChicago Med, and Chicago P.D. collided after a major disaster brought all hands on deck to restore normalcy to the city of Chicago. Chicago Fire star, Jocelyn Hudon, is now wishing for an even more elaborate crossover that would see her character Lizzie Novak cross paths with a favorite from another Dick Wolf show, and she has an idea about how it should play out.

Hudon joined Chicago Fire in Season 12 in a recurring capacity, but was promoted to series regular at the start of Season 13 following her impressive work ethic as the paramedic for Ambo 51. Playful, yet grounded, Novak has won a place in the hearts of fans, with many anticipating what the future holds for her character. As a fairly new character, there are still some unexplored aspects of Novak, especially her backstory, which Hudon, in a recent interview with ScreenRant, teased she’d like to see explored more in-depth. When the conversation steered to crossovers, Hudon shared that she’d love for Novak to encounter the Law & Order: SVU character, Olivia Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay. She said:

I want her to work with Olivia Benson [from] Law & Order: SVU. That’s my dream. I have a picture of her in my trailer. I love Law & Order: SVU and I think it would be really great for Novak and Benson to somehow interact. I could die happy. I would love to be like, “This is what happened!” and she’d be like, “I’ll take it from here,” and I’d be like, “Great!”

What Can We Expect From ‘Chicago Fire’ Season 14?

While the possibilities of Hudon getting those dreams realized might be slim for now, the constant changes within the TV world are enough not to completely rule it out. Speaking of changes, Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newmann has teased major ones to come for Firehouse 51 in the upcoming Season 14. “[We had] an auditor coming in and saying, ‘Look, CFD is cleaning house, and things are going to get shaken up,’ and there’s nobody safe in this shakeup,” Newmann said. Further teasing:

“So next season is going to be about how the s**t really hits the fan once that mandate comes down and how things get shaken up and how our team can hold together as a family while all this craziness is happening around them. It’s going to be very much about how the change affects everybody, not just from the top, but going down below, too. One thing we learned when we brought in Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) that was really fun is it’s not just about getting to know this new character, it’s that a new character brings out new sides to the characters we’ve had for a long time and you see different parts of them and get to know them better. So yeah, next season’s going to be all about shakeups and how everybody reacts and new people and comings and goings.”

Whether these changes could somehow shake Olivia Benson into the world of Chicago Fire might be far-fetched, but then again, in these unpredictable TV times, you never know, Hudon might just see those wild dreams fulfilled. Stay tuned to Collider for more.
