These two scenes were added by the film producer to increase appeal.
Wedding night rape scene
Episode 6 of the fifth season of the Game of Thrones series – titled Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken. This episode features the character Sansa Stark being raped and assaulted by her violent husband, Ramsay Bolton, on her wedding night.
As a blockbuster television series because of its unique content and majestic images, Game of Thrones does not lack sensitive scenes. However, many viewers think that with this controversial scene, the producers of this series have gone too far.
The reason for this reaction is because this is a different detail from writer Martin’s original novel.
At the end of the episode Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken, the female character Sansa Stark (played by Sophie Turner) gets married to the evil male character Ramsay Bolton (played by Iwan Rheon). The wedding was attended by Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen), Sansa’s childhood friend.
On the wedding night, Ramsay revealed his true nature when he forced Sansa to take off her clothes. When Theon was about to leave the room, Ramsay asked him to stay and said: “You were with her when she was a girl, so let’s see her become a woman.”
In this scene, both Sansa and Theon cried when the rape took place, especially Theon’s painful and bitter face, which made the audience very unhappy and created a wave of outrage in the online community.
Immediately after this scene was released, writer Martin – the author of the original work – received thousands of comments and emails in response to the Game of Thrones producers “fabricating” this rape scene. Many viewers questioned this as a cheap act of attracting customers by the manufacturer.
However, writer Martin himself supported the producer’s actions: “I need to tell you again, the novel and the film adaptation are different. There are very few TV series that are faithful to the original stories. I just want to say, even small detailed changes in the plot will lead to major changes later in the film adaptation. This is the butterfly effect.”
Actress Sophie Turner – who plays the raped Sansa Stark – also said she felt excited about this scene. “I like that scene. It shows that the character Sansa thinks she can go home, but is imprisoned right in her own home.”
Shocking scene of prostitute torture
In season 2, one of the most shocking scenes was the scene where young king Joffrey Baratheon tortured and then killed a prostitute in a brothel in the remote town of Winterfell.
King Joffrey Baratheon is considered one of those people with a strange, horrifying hobby, who likes to harm people to find pleasure in screams and gore. In episode 4 Garden of Bones of season 2, the young king forced a prostitute named Ros in a brothel in Winterfell to torture another prostitute for fun.
The poor prostitute was stripped naked on the bed, and another prostitute named Ros repeatedly used a whip to whip hard on the “victim’s” back. However, Ros’s fighting power has not satisfied King Joffrey Baratheon. The young king forced Ros to beat her so hard that the prostitute’s back was covered in blood and then the king used a crossbow to finish off the unfortunate girl.
As soon as this scene aired, it encountered a lot of criticism from TV viewers and controversy among fans. Those who have read Martin’s books are once again “angry” because this scene is not in the original work but was “made up” by the producer to add more drama to the film.
Exceeding the limit of offensive obscenity to attract customers, “comparing” television ratings with other films of the producers of Game of Thrones received many “boos” from the online community. However, it cannot be denied that thanks to these “fabricated” scenes, Game of Thrones has risen to a “unique” position in terms of hotness in the competition of television shows.
