Also known as AGT, America’s Got Talent is an American talent show competition created by former American Idol judge Simon Cowell. The series allows a variety of participants from across the U.S. and around the world to come on the show and perform a range of talents, from singing and dancing to magic and stunts. The goal of the participants is to secure a spot in the live episodes by performing in front of a panel of judges.

The show debuted in 2006 as the first international edition of Cowell’s Got Talent franchise. It has since spawned several global spinoffs, including America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League, which premiered in January 2024.

A handful of judges have come and gone on the show over the years. The current panel on Fantasy League features longtime judges Cowell, Howie Mandel and Heidi Klum, as well as returning judge Mel B.

Baywatch alum David Hasselhoff was an original judge on the show for the first four seasons. The actor, who rose to fame on The Young and the Restless, has been married three times. He was married to actress Catherine Hickland from 1984 to 1989 and actress Pamela Bach from 1989 to 2006. He and Bach share two daughters: Taylor Ann and Hailey Hasselhoff.

Hasselhoff found love a third time with former British model Hayley Roberts, whom he met in 2011 while serving as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent. The couple got married in 2018 after seven years of dating. Despite their 28-year age gap, Hasselhoff described their relationship as “so easy and so great” during a 2017 interview with People. “To have somebody there to support me who isn’t in the industry, and who tells me the truth — she tells me the truth,” he said. “Because the people in this industry a lot of times don’t tell you the truth, and that’s what gets you in trouble.”

Piers Morgan was another original judge on AGT. He stayed on for six seasons, exiting the show before Season 7. The British TV presenter has been married to his wife, journalist Celia Walden, since 2010. The couple share a daughter named Elise, whom they welcomed in 2011. Morgan also has three sons — Spencer, Stanley and Albert — with his first wife Marion Shalloe.

In 2022, Morgan and Walden made headlines when Walden revealed that they had taken a “six-week sabbatical” from their marriage during an appearance on the talk show Lorraine. “He enjoyed it too, it wasn’t just me,” she said of Morgan, adding: “It was very good for both of us.”

Singer Brandy was a judge on the inaugural season, but she never returned to the show. She welcomed a daughter, Sy’rai Iman Smith, with her then-boyfriend Robert Smith in 2002. The couple, who separated shortly after their daughter’s birth, pretended that they were married during Brandy’s pregnancy in order to protect her public image. “I felt the pressure of having to be perfect. And I was scared,” Brandy said during an interview with Oprah. “I thought that everything that I have worked hard for and everything that I worked to build — the image that I worked so hard to build — was threatened.”

She went on to have a brief engagement with music executive Ryan Press, but the pair broke up in 2014.

Sharon Osbourne joined AGT in Season 2, as a replacement for Brandy. She later left the show in Season 7. Osbourne is married to Ozzy Osbourne, the lead vocalist of notorious heavy metal band Black Sabbath. The couple share two children: Jack and Kelly Osbourne. Their family had their own reality show, The Osbournes, which ran for four seasons beginning in 2002.

Howie Mandell is one of the longest-running judges on the series. He joined in Season 4 and has remained on the show ever since. What’s as impressive as his tenure on the show is his enduring marriage to wife Terry Mandel, whom he first met when he was a child. The couple started dating in high school and tied the knot in 1980. Together, they have three kids: son Alex and daughters Jackie and Riley.

Like her husband, Terry has a great sense of humor, which is what initially attracted the comedian to her. “[Terry] made me laugh. It was wonderful to meet a witty woman,” he told Good Housekeeping in 2009. “Spending your life with someone who doesn’t have that wouldn’t be palatable.”

Former Spice Girls member Mel B served as a judge on AGT for seasons 8-13. She returned for America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League. Mel B was previously married to dancer Jimmy Gulzar from 1998 to 2000 and film producer Stephen Belafonte from 2007 to 2017. The singer has since opened up about the alleged emotional and physical abuse she endured while married to Belafonte.

Heidi Klum has served as a judge on AGT since Season 8. Klum was previously married to British singer Seal from 2005 to 2014. Actress Gabrielle Union replaced Mel B for Season 14. She was let go after one season, alleging that she was fired from the show due to her “refusal to remain silent in the face of a toxic culture,” per USA Today. She is married to NBA star Dwyane Wade. The Hollywood power couple began dating in 2009 and got married in 2014. They share daughter Kaavia, whom they welcomed in 2018. Dancing With the Stars pro-turned-host Julianne Hough briefly served as a judge on AGT for Season 14, while Klum took a year off. Hough has dated several A-listers, including actor Dane Cook and TV personality Ryan Seacrest.

She tied the knot with former professional hockey player Brooks Laich on July 8, 2017. After three years of marriage, however, the couple split, telling People in a statement: “We have lovingly and carefully taken the time we have needed to arrive at our decision to separate … We share an abundance of love and respect for one another and will continue to lead with our hearts from that place.”

Modern Family star Sofía Vergara came on in Season 15 and remains a judge on the series. Vergara was married to actor Joe Manganiello for seven years, tying the knot in 2015.
