The ‘Blue Bloods’ Cast Has Dropped Major Series Finale Spoilers So Far: Uncovering the Hints and Clues

The Plot of the Finale Was Revealed

CBS shared the plot of the series finale episode, which will feature guest star Edward James Olmos. The final episode is titled “End of Tour.”

“It’s all hands on deck for the Reagan family, as they race to stop deadly mayhem in the city when the gangs of New York unite together to demand amnesty for the release of their imprisoned members and those awaiting trial, in the historic series finale episode of Blue Bloods,” the summary says.

There’s a Funeral Scene

Abigail Hawk, who portrays Abigail Baker in Blue Bloods, shared an interesting filming location for her final day on set with Tom Selleck.

“My last day, Tom’s last day, gosh, quite a few of our last days on set, was at a cemetery,” she told Express on October 12, 2024. “Which is not giving anything away, but certainly dangling a little teaser.”

The cast finished filming the show’s final scenes back in June and it was rather emotional for everyone.

“It was hard,” she said. “And I felt like I was almost watching myself because it was so surreal and I was so in it that I couldn’t see it, if that makes sense?”

“It was almost like being so close to the fire that I can’t actually experience how hot it is,” Abigail noted.

The series finale date was revealed to be December 13, 2024. Weeks ahead of the episode, CBS released photos of the funeral scene, giving some hints as to which character might be on the chopping block. It appears that Henry, Frank, Erin, Danny, Eddie, Maria, Jack, Peter and Jamie are all in attendance at the funeral, meaning that their characters are most likely safe. Luis Badillo is noticeably missing from the photos.

Judging based on a floral arrangement in the background of one of the photos in the shape of the NYPD crest, it’s clear that the deceased was a member of the police force. Vanessa Ray also teased that she had a really good scene with Badillo coming up, which might indicate that the end is near for the character.

“She’s got a really good one with Badillo. That’s I think probably top five favorite scenes I’ve ever shot with him just getting to work with Ian on a scene,” she told TV Insider in November 2024. “It was cool to shoot it because think we had to shoot it about four different ways to figure out what was going to make it in the edit. So that was really fun. And then it’s a lot of family. It’s a lot of being with the family. Yeah, I would say look out for the scenes with Badillo.”

What Will Happen to Frank Reagan?

While we’ll have to wait and see how the series ends, showrunner Kevin Wade teased what was to come for Tom’s Blue Bloods character, Frank Reagan.

“For Frank, very specifically, the mayor [guest star Dylan Walsh] is in a certain jam, and so he says to Frank, ‘Here’s the keys [to the city], you drive,’” he told TV Insider in May. “The mayor is in a situation where he can’t do his job, and Frank takes it upon himself, almost personally, to find the person who put the mayor in that position. Frank is a man on a mission to find out who went after his boss.”

He also explained why Frank will likely not retire from his job at the series’ end.

“I’m pretty sure that Frank would stay in his job until the series ended,” Kevin said. “We didn’t really pursue that avenue because the show is built on him being the police commissioner of New York City. So, to take a detour during the last mile, if this is the last mile, I don’t know what he would be doing down at the hardware store or having coffee with old buddies during the day. I always have to look at stuff that generates stories. Police Commissioner of New York generates stories. He’s the CEO of 35,000 cops.”

Series Favorites Are Returning

In addition to Dylan returning, other series favorites have returned to reprise their roles throughout the show’s final eight episodes.

“Dylan is back in a major way. Peter Hermann, as Jack Boyle, is back in a significant way. Nicky [played by Sami Gayle] and both of the boys [Andrew Terraciano and Tony Terraciano as Sean and Jack] are back. … Also, Joe Hill [Will Hochman] is back and integral,” Kevin said. “We’re not just playing “the greatest hits,” but everybody that the audience loved and that we loved working with and thought contributed to terrific storytelling, we found a way to bring them in. So, it’s chock-full.”

Is Love Still in the Air Between the Characters?

As for other characters like Danny, Baez, Jamie and Eddie, some big things are coming.

“I can’t spoil the surprise,” Kevin said. “There is a welcome surprise for the audience with Jamie and Eddie, and Danny and Baez have a walk-off that I hope the audience … also finds to be a welcome surprise.”

It also looks like romance might be blossoming again for exes Erin and Jack, as photos released ahead of the finale showed their characters getting closer. Abigail also revealed that Erin had the most “surprising” ending of all of the Reagan crew during an interview with Us Weekly.

Thoughts on a Cliffhanger Ending

He revealed that for the Blue Bloods sendoff, he drew inspiration from other great shows like M*A*S*H, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Sopranos and Deadwood.

“I watched a lot of them for what they might have in common, and what they basically had in common, it seemed to me, if I boiled it down, is they did a great show. And in the last few minutes, they did some little pivot towards, ‘This is also the last show,’” he explained.

“That avoids the ‘We are now going to do a retrospective of how great we’ve been!’ because I think people tune in just to see a really good episode of the show that they loved,” he added. “In the case of Blue Bloods, the season finales that worked best were where we found a crime or criminals or a situation for all the Reagans to work together. You know, separately but together. And we did that in this one. So, we have four different stories but all aimed at the solving or preventing the same crimes.”
