While The Conners season 6 seemingly set up a replacement for Roseanne’s title character, only time will tell where this plot is heading.
Since The Conners has a large cast of characters, the show was in no rush to replace Roseanne Barr’s former title character when she was killed off. Roseanne was central to Roseanne’s original run and its revival, but Darlene, Becky, Jackie, and Dan proved that there were plenty of main characters for The Conners to focus on in her absence. However, before The Conners season 7 begins, one season 6 outing has offered a potential Roseanne replacement.
When Katey Sagal’s Louise first appeared in The Conners season 1, the sitcom spinoff made it clear that Dan’s new love interest was not interested in being the new Roseanne. This was understandable since Sagal is a sitcom legend who appeared as a mother in Married… With Children and 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter. The screen history of Louise’s actor suggested that she would be a perfect candidate to replace Roseanne in The Conners. To clarify her role, Louise repeatedly stated that she wasn’t interested in becoming a mother to Roseanne’s adult children or a substitute grandmother to their children.
Louise Could Become Roseanne’s Replacement In The Conners Season 6
Running For The School Board Changes Louise’s Persona
Despite her best attempts to avoid replacing Dan’s first wife, Louise may need to become the new Roseanne in The Conners season 6. Louise’s run for the school board looks like it will change her attitude toward Dan’s family, judging by the events of season 6, episode 8, “Toilet Hacks and The Management Track.” In this outing, Louise mentioned that she was struggling to win over parents since she isn’t a parent herself, and she admitted that running for school board was more challenging without children. If Louise presented Dan’s family as her stepchildren, this might not be a problem.
While The Conners season 6 remembered a promising plot by bringing back Louise’s school board run, the show left her in a tricky position. If she positioned herself as a stepmother to Darlene and Becky and a grandmother to Mark, Harris, and Beverly-Rose, she could win over voters and gain a spot on the school board. That said, calling herself a mother and grandmother to Dan’s children and grandchildren was exactly what Louise said she didn’t want to do when they began dating. Louise spent season 4 complaining that Dan prioritized his children over her, so this would be an ironic reversal.
Louise’s The Conners Season 6 Plot Can Complete Her Character Arc
Louise Embracing Dan’s Family Would Finally Replace Roseanne
Darlene Louise and Dan in The Conners
Louise replacing Roseanne in season 6 wouldn’t be a bad thing since the show’s original title character has been gone for a long time. Louise could do a lot of good on the school board and the fact that Beverly-Rose’s school weren’t allowed to play ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen’ proves that the institution is in dire need of her influence. While the death of Dan’s first wife was one of the biggest tragedies in Roseanne’s history, the sitcom spinoff has grieved Roseanne thoroughly. As such, The Conners season 6 should position Louis as Roseanne’s replacement, even if it is only for the school board election story.
