Laurie Metcalf’s real-life daughter, Young Sheldon’s Zoe Perry, is joining The Conners season 7. It’s sometimes difficult to imagine that the Roseanne spinoff, born out of Rosenne Barr’s firing, has already been on the air for over six seasons. Throughout that time, Dan and his beloved Lanford clan have gone through several life-changing experiences. While not technically part of the titular clan, Metcalf’s Jackie has been a franchise staple as Roseanne’s sister. As The Conners season 7 approaches, however, she is faced with an interesting narrative that would have her work alongside her real-life daughter.
In a new report by TV Line, Perry will appear in The Conners season 7 as a young police officer in Lanford. Her still-unnamed character will appear in two out of six remaining episodes of the Roseanne follow-up. As someone active in the force, Perry’s cop will give Jackie a hard time when she decides to rejoin despite her age. The first look at the pair’s scene can be seen in an official promo still below:
What Zoe Perry’s Role In The Conners Season 7 Means For Jackie’s Final Story
Season 6 ended with both Jackie and Dan retired from their respective jobs. Earlier, Roseanne’s sister decided to walk away from the Lunch Box and handed the reigns to her great-grandniece, Harris, to manage. As a lifelong worker, however, she became restless as she struggled to occupy her time with things for her leisure. Tying this to Perry’s appearance in The Conners season 7, it seems like ABC is further exploring Jackie’s mindset as she tries to get used to a more relaxed life in her remaining years.
Given Perry’s limited involvement, however, it’s safe to assume that she would ultimately be able to convince Jackie to walk away from her plans of rejoining the force. The narrative is intriguing enough, considering that it continues to honor the universe’s dedication to telling grounded stories about the working class in America. Beyond the plot, it would be curious to see how the pair’s chemistry will play out on the screen. It’s worth noting that Perry already appeared in the franchise before. In Roseanne seasons 5 and 7, she played a young version of Jackie.
Our Take On Perry’s Appearance In The Conners Season 7 Opposite Metcalf
Casting Perry for this particular storyline is a brilliant move from ABC and The Conners. Given how much they look alike, it would almost be like Jackie talking to her younger self during their conversations. Frankly, I am disappointed that the Roseanne franchise has beaten The Big Bang Theory universe in putting the mother-and-daughter duo together.
Metcalf played an older Mary Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, while Perry took over the role until Young Sheldon’s finale. Now, she is recurring in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. There were various instances that CBS could have staged a crossover between the versions of Sheldon’s mother, but it didn’t. Now, The Conners is doing it for Jackie’s final arc.
