Appearing on Seinfeld was truly a career-changing role for many young stars. As we’ll reveal in the following, that was the case for Brad Garrett, who had a minor cameo on the sitcom. That same year however, his career completely changed as he made his debut on Everybody Loves Raymond.
We’ll take a look back at his experience on both sitcoms, and how he felt about working alongside Jerry Seinfeld.
In addition, we’ll start things off by viewing what others thought of their time alongside Jerry. As it turns out, the experience wasn’t always a positive one, and confusing for some at times. Even his closest co-stars like Jason Alexander admitted their bond was never extra close.
Let’s take a look at what others had to say, and Garrett’s experience.
Jerry Seinfeld Had A Bumpy Relationship With Other Celebs, And That Included Some His Own Castmates On Seinfeld
Despite the fame, Jerry Seinfeld has had some questionable interactions with other celebs. Neal Brennan discussed the time he asked Jerry out for coffee, and was instead provided a YouTube link by the comedian, days after the text message.
“So he eventually texted me back last night and said, ‘Sorry I couldn’t make it. I couldn’t make it but here are the sort of things I would’ve said had I showed up,” Brennan revealed as Jerry sent him the YouTube clips instead.
However, even some of Jerry’s own castmates revealed they weren’t as close to the star. Jason Alexander revealed that once the show ended, there really was no sense of emotion from anyone.
“We were never social friends, we were work friends. We had very different lives,’ he said. “But we really hung out with each other at the show. We were work mates,’ he added. “After nine years, when the show ended, we kind of went, “Oh, bye, see ya!”
As it turns out, Brad Garrett didn’t even get the ‘work friends’ label during his brief cameo on Seinfeld.
Brad Garrett Was Blown Away By Jerry Seinfeld’s Acting Skills During His Cameo, But Revealed Jerry Wasn’t As Interested In Him
Brad Garrett continues to boost his career these days, appearing on shows like High Desert and Bupkis. However, 1996 was a pivotal year for the star, as not only did he start on Everybody Loves Raymond, but he also got the chance to appear on an episode of Seinfeld.
Appearing as a mechanic in The Bottle Deposit, Garrett stated that he wanted to, ‘put my head in the oven’ after watching Jerry work and his process. However, like so many others, Garrett revealed that Jerry was very private and to himself.
Speaking alongside The Las Vegas Review Journal, Garrett was also asked if he’d ever be featured on Jerry’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Garrett revealed it was likely due to the fact that he wasn’t Jerry’s ‘thing’.
“I love cars, and I love coffee,” Garrett says. “I don’t think he likes me. I mean, everyone has done it, everyone … But I don’t think I’m his thing.”
Despite the experience with Jerry and lack of invite, Brad’s career did just fine…
Brad Garrett’s Career Took Off With Everybody Loves Raymond, But He Isn’t Interested In A Reboot
In the same year as the Seinfeld cameo, Brad Garrett became a household name thanks to his work on Everybody Loves Raymond. The sitcom set up the rest of his career, and according to his words with Fox News, there isn’t a day that goes by in which Garrett doesn’t express gratitude for Everybody Loves Raymond.
“It’s an incredibly unique opportunity. I was lucky. I auditioned for the show, I had been training for twenty years before then. There’s not a day that goes by where I don’t think, ‘Oh I’m a lucky pup.”
Despite the show’s success and how close he still is with lots of the cast, Garrett isn’t interested in reviving the series.
