The fate of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. has now been decided, and it all went down before the shows even returned from their latest hiatus. Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. are perhaps the jewel of the crown for Wolf Entertainment, so a decision for the three was always expected before the rest of the NBC lineup. But, with the production company having already suffered the loss of two shows from a shared universe this year in FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted, and the fact that Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU have yet to be renewed, people were getting anxious the longer it took for the announcement. So, are Chicago Fire, P.D., and Med renewed for 2026
Are Chicago Fire, P.D., and Med Renewed For 2026?
Yes, NBC has renewed the entire One Chicago lineup. This means Chicago Fire will be returning for Season 14, Chicago P.D. for Season 1,3, and Chicago Med for Season 11. Deadline reports that the news, however, comes with some cost trimming. We already know part of it in that Chicago Fire, for example, will be saying goodbye to two characters, as Jake Lockett, who plays Sam Carver, and Daniel Kyri, who plays Darren Ritter, are departing the show at the end of Season 13.
But that’s not all. According to the outlet, other departures could still be possible for the franchise. And they might be coming from Chicago Med, whose season finale synopsis reads in part, “following orders, Goodwin is tasked with enforcing difficult cuts to hospital personnel.” The show had previously teased that some familiar faces would show up for that episode, but now it seems like it could be a hello and a goodbye.
The outlet also reports the franchise still hasn’t finalized deals with some of its biggest stars going into next season, like Taylor Kinney, who plays Kelly Severide. Last we saw his character, he and on-screen wife Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) were hoping to adopt soon and had both gotten involved with a teenager who was part of a fire from Stella’s past. Particularly considering the departures on Chicago Fire, it would be very hard to imagine the show without Severide or Kidd, though Deadline did indicate talks are underway regarding a new contract.Chicago P.D. hasn’t released a finale synopsis, but showrunner Gwen Sigan previously told TVLine that “Intelligence ups their pursuit of dirty Deputy Chief Reid,” in a finale that would also see “Chapman grow closer to Voight, and Torres face the emotional fallout of his actions.” Considering how much Torres has been missing from this season, could the show be cutting costs by letting Benjamin Levy Aguilar go? It’s a possibility we have to consider.
Deadline’s report also indicates that orders for the new season are expected to be shorter than the 22-episode seasons the show had this season. This is part of a growing trend on network TV. ABC has increasingly been renewing shows like 9-1-1 and Will Trent for 18-episode seasons, and CBS’s NCIS and Fire Country got a 20-episode order for Season 22 and Season 3, respectively. So, it would make sense for NBC to trim the orders to at least 20, instead of the 22 that has been the norm the past few years.
This, on top of a reduction of the “minimum guarantees” for most cast members and a reported request that members of the three shows, which film in Illinois, take on Illinois residency, will reportedly help keep the budgets for the three shows at a place where they make sense next season. The business has become more and more complicated, but people can at least breathe a sigh of relief that their favorite shows are returning for one more season.
